To change? or  Not to change? That is the Question! After one of my students wondered why the fingering in Bach's Minuet in G Anh 116 is so complicated, specifically regarding the finger subs on repeated notes,  I did a bit of digging hoping for a simple video explanation to add to piano lab for my student regarding why or why not to use changing fingers on repeated notes. When I thought about taking a songwriting class in college, I first attended the student songwriting recital at BYU and was both amazed and intimidated by the performances. Unfortunately, after hearing their songs I felt I could never create something that amazing, so I didn't sign up?. My love for improvising and composing came many years later as a piano teacher when I tried several "beginning ..read more
