I have always loved Jacobean Tree of Life crewel work embroidery, so designs based on it were among my earliest attempts at carving. It's still a firm favorite.

Hello! This is my tiny kiln, I’ll preface that I’m a noob at pottery. I made a mug using low fire clay and it exploded in this kiln. It had dried for 3 weeks. I put it in this kiln and i heard it explode within 10 minutes. Is it because my kiln got too hot too fast? I appreciate any advice. Thank you!

TL:DR I’ve found what I thought was a personal style that I’m obsessed with (underglazed pots with drippy glaze because I hate bare bottoms and I hate messy lines of glaze, solution: make it intentionally messy). A few days later I get on instagram to see my assigned FBI agent is working overtime and my explore page has at least EIGHT accounts sharing the same concept. Do I go back to the drawing board? Will I seem fraudulent, like I’m copying someone’s work despite my thoughts being “original” and the concept being an “original solution” I had to an issue I was facing before even realiz ..read more

Basically my whole yard is clay, was doing some landscaping & decided to grab some chunks! I've been interested in pottery for a while but am a complete noob. Watched a few YouTube videos, but I would love any tips or tricks from anyone that has harvested wild clay! I also have zero plan for how I would go about firing anything I make, I'm assuming an oven wouldn't do the trick.

The shape/trimming on my stuff is still mediocre imo but I'm glad the glaze turned out good at least. The prismatic orange glaze is Amaco Solar Flare but I can't recall the rest and/or they homemade by some local potters.

I've been throwing for a couple of months now and while the throwing works really well, the trimming really doesn't. As I live hours away from the next studio I'm not able to ask anyone, so I thought you guys might have ideas.
I'm talking mostly about trimming mugs - bowls and bigger objects I can trim alright. But 2 out of every 3 mugs I make end up flying off the wheel and I just don't know why.
When I started I used 3 small pieces of clay to keep my mug in the center of the wheel but then I wasn't able to trim close to the rim. After that I tried the suction cup method and while it works w ..read more

What are the chances it’s going to explode? I just threw it yesterday, so the lid and body are still one piece aka not trimmed yet. It’s wrapped in plastic and inside a mostly air tight plastic tub.
