My wife and I are visiting the two islands. Both of us have done a shore dive (I did a boat dive in Big Island some time ago, it was amazing)
I was wondering if anyone has done a boat dive at either of the two places.
Oahu works better for our schedule but only seems to have reef dives (which I presume is similar to snorkelling at a great spot such as Hanauma bay). Kauai is tight but it has Sheraton caverns that seem unreal!
True, we can’t go beyond 40 feet irrespective of the dive site. But I imagine that the terrain and ecology can still be quite different...
Thank you very much!

I’ve been consistently diving since I was OW certified in 1985…my dad was an instructor, was involved in SoCal diving all through the 70s-80’s and then owned a dive operation in the Caribbean until he passed away…so diving has literally been a part of my entire life.
I have never done anything other than my OW. Mainly because I dive for fun (enjoy new places and creatures). I don’t even log my dives, other than photos and dowloading basic info from my computer (which I recently just started doing).
Felt all this context was good to know.
Seems like lately when I look to sign up for or some tr ..read more

Divemaster, around 400 dives. I've been to Komodo, Solomon Islands, Fiji, GBR in the past. Other than Komodo which was recent i'm open to going back to a destination. Big into photography, mostly fish/macro. Prefer liveaboard diving (have been on about 15).
What does everyone recommend for healthiest mixed reef destinations these days with lots of hard/soft coral and great fish life?
Right now I'm thinking either another part of Indonesia (Raja Ampat or Lembeh), Philippines, Fiji, or Papua New Guinea. Hopefully a ten night itinerary, or maybe back to back 7 day trips (could even do two destin ..read more

I am trying to decide which resort to go to. I have seen many videos and comments about Rainbow reef, White wall and fish factory. I have also heard that Bligh waters are beautiful too. I am flying from the USA so this is an expensive and time consuming trip. I would like to choose wisely.
Has anyone dove both of these locations? Or stayed at these resorts? Is there better places for similar money?
Any input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I’ve done extensive diving in Indonesia and so far my dive operator has taken us on very easy shallow dives. Where are the more advanced dives?
