Dear Anupa, I just cupped the 2023 Darjeeling First Flush Tea you sent me and the descriptive word that comes to mind is 'Exquisite'. It brings back memories of the First Flush fragrance I experienced at the Makaibari Tea Estate withering room, fresh and bright. I am fortunate to have a knowledgeable Tea Merchant such as yourself who keeps her customers connected with the Champagne of World Teas, Darjeeling Tea from the Makaibari Tea Estate. Best wishes to you, your family and your 5-Star Silver Tips Tea business. Your Friend in Tea,  Mike ..read more

We recently discovered that there was a National Homemade Soup Day.  It immediately took us back to our Tea Room days when we started each day by making a big bowl of hearty soup. Over the years, we gained a fair bit of fame for our many Soups.  Our collection grew so large that in any given month, we did not need to repeat a single soup.  We collected recipes from magazines, newspapers, customer suggestions and, of course, our own home recipes.  I would often begin by trying out a new soup recipe at home and then adjusting it for commercial use.  Over the course of 18 ..read more

The holiday baking season is in full swing. While some holiday traditions have gone by the wayside, when we think of Christmas, cookies and tea still reign supreme. But have you ever thought about tea in your cookies or other holiday dishes? Tea is a great way to put a new twist on some old favorites. Infusing your recipes with tea is easier than you may have imagined, but ditch the tea bags and use loose leaf tea. Not only is the quality better, so are the flavors that it imparts to your favorite recipes.  Although you can add tea leaves directly to your recipes, you can substi ..read more

Not only do we want to know if our promotions work for you, we love reading your comments and getting your input. We surveyed you at the end of August to review our offers and promotions. And as before, you didn't disappoint! We received numerous submissions and they will help us to fine-tune our future offers. The first question was: "We've offered various types of promotions. Rank your top 3 with the 1st choice being your most preferred promotion".  Although we will continue to offer a variety of promotions, we will more prominently feature your top ranked suggestion ..read more

High Tea, Afternoon Tea, What's the Difference?
Silver Tips Tea Blog
by Anupa Mueller

High tea is NOT the dainty meal of petit fours, finger sandwiches and scones served with clotted cream.  That is actually Afternoon Tea. Served generally at 4 or 5 pm in the afternoon, during the Victorian and Edwardian times, it became a welcome break between lunch and the late supper of those times. Afternoon tea was often served at a low table in a parlor or drawing room and thus called ‘low’ tea or ‘afternoon tea’. In contrast, High Tea is what workers came home to after a hard day's work, especially in northern England, and was served in the early evening.  It was always accom ..read more

We often get emails from Tea Room customers asking about teas and if our shop is still open and where they can get our sandwich recipes and if we have a website. Here is one we got in our inbox a few days ago.  We were happy to direct her to Homestyle Desserts in Peekskill. "Hi! I was born in Tarrytown and growing up, my Grandma took me to Silver Tips Tearoom all the time. It is one of my fondest memories. One of my grandma's favorite parts of a lunch at the tearoom was a layered lemon cake for dessert. Her 85th birthday is coming up and I would love to be able to get her that same cake ..read more
