One week down…

Hello from the other side of the first week of clinical!  As I’ve mentioned before (but hello if you’re new!), after spending a year in the classroom, my clinical work started last week.  We went from 0 to 60 real quick, jumping right into the operating room on the first day.  It’s definitely been an interesting and a tad bit of an overwhelming experience, but I will say that I am very happy with the profession I’ve chosen and I’m excited for when it comes together a little more and even more excited for the day when I feel comfortable and competent.  I feel like I’ve learn ..read more

Greetings, friends.  I’ve written and deleted, written and rewritten, this a couple times.  This feels like one of those more vulnerable things to share, one of those things I’m not sure I’d love for a random person to do a google search and find.  But that probably also means it hits me deep and probably does so for other people.  So, here we go. Last week, I turned 35.  (That was in June.) I’ve never been one to get too excited about my birthday.  Having a summer birthday means that I never truly got to do the whole bring-cupcakes-to-school-on-your-birthday thin ..read more

Hello again.  Thank you to everyone for your feedback and kind words on my last post.  I wasn’t even sure who that post would reach since I’ve been out of the blogging game for awhile, but it was so lovely (one of my new favorite words) to hear from people.  It’s weird to some people, but I’ve always loved the connections I’ve made over the internet and it’s heartwarming to hear that people were excited to hear from me and that they totally understand the feelings that I have.  So, thank you. I wanted to start with that post because there’s so much talk in this world about ..read more

Life, unexpected.

Well, hello friends. I really did mean to revive this blog (how many times have I said that?) earlier this year with the New Jersey Marathon.  I actually got through about six miles of my race report before I decided that I didn’t want to write it.  Part of me really wanted to write it because it would be the cherry on top of the return to running after my hip arthroscopy to fix my labral tears, and that was important not only for myself but also for anyone else who is facing pain and surgery.  Success stories really helped me when I was going through the recovery time.  Th ..read more

New Jersey Marathon – Race Week!
Nurse on the Run

Hello!  I know I said I was back blogging, but as I’ve been saying for almost the past two years….anesthesia school takes up a majority of my time and marathon training isn’t exactly not time consuming either haha.  Between studying, running, and taking breaks with friends, maybe my return to blogging was a bit premature. BUT!  The big news of the week is that it’s MARATHON WEEK.  Man, I’ve waited so, so long to say that again.  My last marathon was the 2015 New York City Marathon, which was about 2.5 years ago and was a bit of a disaster..  It was also long befor ..read more

Hey guys, it’s me. I know, it’s been awhile.  It’s been a bit of a roller coaster over here since my last post and sometimes it just felt like I was barely hanging on, let alone having time to write.  But I do miss this space and sharing about running and nursing.  Part of me feels like blogging is a thing of the past (which I’ve written about before…), but I enjoy putting pen to paper fingers to the keyboard, so here we are. Let’s get you all up to speed, why won’t we? School I can’t believe this, but we’re less than six months away from graduation.  If you had told m ..read more

Time for my monthly post!  Haha.  I hate to play the busy card, but it’s been a combo of busy and stepping away from everything for a bit.  We had a week off between clinical sites at the end of August, so Eric and I headed to California to visit his friends who live about an hour east of LA, then spent a few days in San Diego (because it’s my dream life), then drove to Phoenix for a day just to go to a baseball game (checked Chase Field off the list!), and finally back to LA to spend another weekend with his friends.  I started clinical for a couple days (much closer to ho ..read more

Survived summer semester and alllll the running!

Hello from the other side of summer semester!  The final for our class was actually two weeks ago, and somehow it feels like it was ages ago.  The days are long but the weeks are short?  The months are short?  The weeks definitely don’t feel short since the 5am wake up call is really hard on Thursdays and Fridays, but this summer did seem to fly by.  Our clinical calendar doesn’t follow the academic calendar, so I have one more week at my current clinical site even though classes are over. Summer has been quite challenging – we were in class from 9-5 on Mondays and the ..read more

Long time, no talk
Nurse on the Run

Oh man…long time, no talk!  Life has been very, very up over here in the land of clinical residency, and I’m trying hard to stay afloat let alone write about it.  Being in clinical 40 hours per week (10 hour days Tuesday-Friday) + 2-2.5 hours commuting + class 9-5 on Mondays + all the outside work that goes along with all of the above means that I’m tired all the time!  Waking up at 5am is rough no matter what time you go to bed, that’s for sure.  On Friday night, Eric found me nearly asleep in my notes at 9pm – definitely went to bed at that point. Despite the crazy hours ..read more

2017 Mini 10K Race Report
Nurse on the Run

Back in February, before that whole maybe-you-have-a-stress-reaction thing hit, I was feeling pretty confident in my running.  I saw that registration was open for the NYRR Mini 10K and that some people were registering for it.  I’d been holding off in registering for my first race after surgery, and I wasn’t sure what I wanted it to be.  After being out of the racing game (and running game) for awhile, I decided it was time to get back into it, and a race in Central Park would be low pressure.  Then I realized that registration would be $50, and that sounded a bit ste ..read more
