I know I have started 2018 with terrible non-existence blog posts and for that I am sorry. I have so much going on that something had to give and sadly it was blogging. Since starting my YouTube channel last year, I really didn't realise how time consuming it was going to be as at first I thought this would be easier than blogging but now I am not so sure. One thing I am sure about is my wish to stay consistent with blog posts, blogging on subjects of interests other than hair care such as skincare, beauty, home life etc. I have even thought about changing the name of my blog but I am unsur ..read more

If you haven't already, it is time to start thinking about protecting our hair from the harsh elements this cold weather brings. Below are my top winter hair care tips whether your hair is natural or relaxed. Deep Condition weekly With the cold settling in for the next few months, it is essential to give our hair as much moisture as possible to protect our hair from the harsh elements of the cold temperatures, wind and rain. Ideally you should be deep conditioning at least once a week but if that is too often for you, and then try bi-weekly. Mix oils with your deep conditioner to give your ..read more

So the New Year is here and what better way to start the year than to set yourself some goals for the year ahead. Over the last few months, my hair has been flourishing so I have set myself some hair goals in order to maintain healthy relaxed hair throughout 2018. Here my hair goals for 2018: Grow My Hair Back to APL I have suffered quite a few setbacks over the last two years which started in late 2015 when I was experiencing breakage due to under-processed hair. Between then and now, I have had trim off quite a lot of length and it's only now that I feel like my hair is healthy and in go ..read more

Relaxer Touch-Up - 12 Weeks post Relaxer
The Healthy Hair Diary

It's amazing when you do a countdown to relaxer day and then when it approaches, you're left thinking that you could go a little longer! A few weeks ago I decided I was done with self-relaxing and contacted one of my hairdressers Jade who used to relax my hair, to come round to relax and trim my hair. I could see my ends needed a good trim and my hair was soon due for a relaxer which I was dreading doing myself so was glad that this time around, I could just sit and chill. Before Jade's arrival, I based my edges, nape and ears with Vaseline and applied Jamaican Black Castor Oil to the leng ..read more

How I Keep My New Growth Soft & Stretch My Relaxers
The Healthy Hair Diary

At the beginning of my hair journey, I struggled to stretch my relaxers to 12 weeks post without the use of heat. I tried lots of different products of which some of them worked but would leave me with weighed down hair. I know what works for my hair now and as much as I have fallen in love with air-drying my relaxed hair on wash day, when my hair gets to 9 weeks post relaxer, air-drying alone is not enough if I want manageable hair. The Root2Tip Triple M Miracle Moisture Milk has been a life saver for me when it comes to my new growth and has become a favourite again.  Check out my vid ..read more

Sunday 12th November 2017 It is time for a relaxer touch-up next week so this weekend, it was all about preparing my hair for a relaxer which means protein. For this wash day, I pre-pooed my hair on Friday night using extra virgin olive oil, covered my hair and went to bed. On Saturday morning, I rinsed my hair then shampooed my hair using ORS Creamy Aloe shampoo lathering twice, and then towel dried my hair whilst mixing my deep conditioner mix. I used the ORS Hair Mayonnaise conditioner which is a medium protein conditioner mixed with two teaspoons of Jamaican black castor oil. I applied i ..read more

My Favourite Moisturisers for Relaxed hair

Since starting my hair journey in 2012, I have managed to curb my product junkie craves and stick to what works for my hair instead of buying  very product going just because it worked for someone else's hair. I have four water based moisturisers that my hair absolutely loves.  Two of these moisturisers contain protein, sulfates and silicone and the other two are more natural products containing no parabens, sulfates or petrolatum, but I love them all.  Products mentioned: Crème of Nature Butter Milk Leave in Hair Milk -http://amzn.to/2xwuLCa Root2Tip Triple M Miracle Moistur ..read more

Castor Oil Challenge | For Growth & Thickness
The Healthy Hair Diary

I decided to do the castor oil challenge over the colder months to see if I could encourage thicker roots and extra length retention. The castor oil challenge consists of incorporating castor oil into your hair regime for a period of time. I have decided to take part in this challenge on the advanced level which is to add two teaspoons of castor oil to my deep conditioner each week, oil my scalp with castor oil every other night and also add castor oil to my  sealing oil which I use to deal in moisture. I started the challenge on 1st October and the challenge will end on 1st January 2018 ..read more

Wash Day Diary - New Growth is Popping | 10 Weeks Post

I am back.... I have taken a long break, longer than expected, however starting a YouTube channel is a lot more time consuming than I realised. I love that I can just sit in front of the camera and make a video however; I don't enjoy the editing afterwards. I am starting with a wash day as I miss documenting my wash days and having a journal to look back on to see what's working and not working for my hair. I'm still trying to determine if I prefer doing my wash day on a Saturday or Sunday. I prefer to pre-poo my hair overnight and always worry that if I pre-poo on a Friday night, the next mo ..read more

My Night Time Hair Routine | Relaxed Hair
The Healthy Hair Diary
by

I have had relaxed hair for at least 15 years now and before I started my hair journey, I would wrap my hair every night using a paddle brush and would secure with a satin scarf. I stopped wrapping my hair about 4-5 years ago as I realised it was causing breakage to my edges, I don't even own a paddle brush anymore as I prefer to style my hair with just my hands and will only use a rat tail comb to part my hair. When my hair was armpit length - bra strap length, I would wear my hair in a loose bun secured by a satin scrunchie, secure with a satin scarf and be off to bed. Over the last six ..read more
