IRA/401k vs Investing with leverage

I'm curious if it would be better to take my companies IRA deal (matching up to 2%) - which is bad, or to take the money i would be putting in a Roth IRA and instead invest it in a VOO/QQQ type fund with leverage like I have through my brokerage. While I'd have to pay tax on any gains, I figure the leverage aspect would allow me to outperform my IRA. Can anyone advise on this & whether I'm indeed correct? submitted by /u/cpsg1995 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

So if ByteDance agrees to sell Tik Tok, who do you think it would be?

With the house passing a bill that includes a provision to effectively ban Tik Tok, I thought it might be interesting to discuss who a potential buyer might be. iirc in 2020 Microsoft almost bought it, so my guess would probably be them. I think Tik Tok would give them a massive presence in mobile phones, an area that they are borderline non existent and also give them a ton of data for both ads but also AI training. submitted by /u/TheYoungLung [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Are there any stocks that pay monthly dividends that are eligible to become qualified dividends?

Forgive me if it's a stupid question. I'm new here. Have always been a highly diversified, hold forever investor. We've been lucky enough to amass a pretty big portfolio, but I have a sort of mental block about ever spending any of that money. In an effort to actually enjoy the fruits our labors some, I'm diverting a portion (~5%) to monthly income producing stocks. The idea is that money is for us to do whatever we want with, without worrying if it's going to grow a bunch. (Or even go down...) I'm still leaning toward boring but consistent stuff like O Realty Income, but none of the REITs ev ..read more

Artificial VTI?

So, this is kinda a weird idea but in my mind it works lol. So, 50% VOO 25% XMHQ and 25% AVUV (whatever % each makes up in VTI but with a small cap value tilt) would maybe be better than VTI itself? I believe that quality is an extremely important trait in a stock and that only having quality stocks would kinda make a quality VTI. I understand that it's not as diversified at all but it's still about 85-90% the same weighted thing right? submitted by /u/Xzyrvex [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

WMT vs COST?

Disclaimer: I own WMT shares. I’m curious what you guys think about how these two compare Being as how Walmart has a significant presence in both general retail/groceries and warehouse sales, wouldn’t it make sense to invest in them over Costco? Walmart has a rapidly expanding e-commerce presence, a wide moat and is consistently looking for additional sources of revenue (Vizio purchase, Ibotta investment etc). What would make an investor chose Costco over Walmart? Genuinely curious, I feel that it’s a case of some feeling that Walmart is a “jack of all trades” and thus a master of none, while ..read more

I found thousands of shares of stock for a company which was merged, and then bought again, by Ingram Micro, Inc.

After an immediate family member recently passed away, I uncovered thousands of shares of physical 1986 stock certificates in a company called “International Computer Applications, Inc” and accompanying paperwork from the transaction. After some top-tier googling, this company may have merged with “Connecting Point of America” (became the largest Apple retailer of its time with $2B annual revenue), which was then bought by “Ingram Micro” (still in business with $45B annual revenue). Is there a process for moving these shares into shares of Ingram Micro? submitted by /u/BeardBootsBullets [vis ..read more

Tesla’s biggest retail shareholder, Leo Koguan, confirmed that he is voting against Elon Musk’s $55 billion package and the re-election of two board members. We first reported on Koguan in 2021 when the little-known investor became the third largest individual shareholder in Tesla behind Elon Musk and Larry Ellison. The Indonesian-born Chinese American businessman is better known for founding SHI International Corp, a large private IT company that made him a billionaire. He is also involved in academia and philanthropy. Koguan has previously described himself as an “Elon fanboy” (the featured ..read more
