The sun is shining, I've got my windows open and I'm listening to the birds chirping away in the trees. I thought I’d spend a couple of hours doing a bit of admin before enjoying the rest of the long Easter weekend. I love the holidays as it always gives me a chance to catch up on things that don’t tend to get done during term time as well as doing some planning for the months ahead. I also like to reflect on the past term. The start of 2019 was a very exciting one for me: I had a new teacher starting at the school, a brand new class was launched and I entered some of my students for their tap ..read more

Looking back at our summer of fun!

It seems only a few weeks ago that I was preparing an adventure in an enchanted forest and writing a script for Summer School and yet here we are nearly half way through October and heading towards half term! Every time I look at the pictures and videos from the summer I can’t help but smile! The first toddler workshop was Unicorns, Rainbows and Sparkle and it was a riot of colour, props, glitter and fun! Myself, Charlie and Francesca headed off into the Enchanted Forest with 17 very excited little ones. We danced our way through the unicorn raindrops and when the rainbow appeared we danced w ..read more

Nutrition and Dance

So with just a few days left until our show, thoughts turn to final preparations for the day. One of our top considerations must be how to refuel our body so that we have enough energy to perform. I have asked Alicia Gurner, one of my adult dancers who is also a Registered Associate Nutritionist, for her advice on the best things to eat and drink so that we can perform at our best. While films and newspaper headlines may have us all believe that professional dancers stick rigidly to a daily diet of a few grapes, a lettuce leaf, and endless amounts of black coffee, this is far from reality. How We Learn (Part 2) - A Student's View
Dance Dynamic

I hope you all enjoyed my last blog post - How We Learn. Having looked at how students learn new steps and choreography and how I as the teacher can assist them in that learning, I thought it would be interesting to get the view of a student from the school on how they find the process; both the challenges and the rewards. Francesca is one of my adult students and is taking part in our show later this month. Learning anything new as an older adult can be challenging, but learning how to dance can be particularly so. There may be demands on your time from families and/or work, leaving you unab ..read more

How We Learn (Part 1)

With less than three weeks left until we get on to the stage to perform in our Show, Dance Dynamic classes are a hive of activity. Costumes are been fitted, dances perfected and performance smiles practiced. There is a lot to do and think about, but when it comes to the actual dances the majority of the hard work has already been done over the last few months. A lot of work goes into a 3 minute performance on stage and it is essential for me as the teacher to understand the process of how people learn and how I can best aid them in that learning. What is Motor Learning? ‘A set of processes as ..read more

I can’t believe that it’s September and we are about to start back for the Autumn Term! What a great summer it has been though here at Dance Dynamic. We’ve had two brilliantly fun toddler workshops and our Movies & Musicals Summer School, not to mention my Monday evening adult summer classes. Princesses, Superheroes and a Beach Party It seems a long time ago now that I welcomed lots of excited toddlers to the Curzon Centre for our Superheroes & Princesses workshop and Melody Bear’s Beach Party. Each workshop was 2 hours of dancing, games, arts & crafts and dressing up! I think my ..read more

The start of a new term is always exciting for me - making plans of what I'd like to achieve in that term, welcoming lots of new faces into the school, preparing for exams and children moving up from my Little Bear Feet classes into the main school are just a few of the lovely things I look forward to. The start of this term was even more exciting! Firstly there's the excitement of summer on its way - warm sunny days and evenings, BBQ's, picnic's (obviously this is all dependent on the British weather!) Then there's the excitement of finally having my ballet barres to use in my classes and dan ..read more

Wow, I can't believe we're at the Easter holidays already, where did last term go! It was a very busy and successful term with the Quiz Night, ballet exams and lots more. We also welcomed many more new students into the school. It's lovely to see the Dance Dynamic family growing. A ROUND UP FROM LAST TERM Quiz Night What an amazing time we had at our Quiz Night on Saturday 25th February! It’s the first fundraising event that we've done at the school and it was a huge success! I had a rough idea of how much I wanted to raise on the evening, but thanks to everyone's generosity on the night and a ..read more

What an amazing time we had at our Quiz Night on Saturday 25th February! Its the first fundraising event that we've done at the school and it was a huge success! I never thought when we first started discussing the idea that so many people would come along, but when I looked at all the tables set up in the hall on the night I remember thinking 'Wow'! Its also certainly the biggest fish and chip order I've ever placed - 96 meals! I must say a big thank you to Jordan for being our highly entertaining Quiz Master for the night. I do believe a new career as a quiz master and after dinner speaker a ..read more
