Hi, I'm slightly concerned about whether or not my cheap low quality violin is going to seriously harm my learning. I will provide photos of what my violin looks like exactly, but my main question is if using a really cheap violin is acceptable?
I'm not rich by any means, and most of my cash is used for funding things like research or for upcoming competitions... which means I'm forced to have a horribly cheap violin. Is it ok as an absolute beginner to have this? (I will try to buy a better quality violin once the opportunity comes.)

I’m picking up my violin again, it’s been awhile. I grew up with the Suzuki method but am frankly sick of Suzuki repertoire and don’t know how to find other repertoire around my level. I got as far as book 4 but I want to practice things around book 2 + 3 level. Does anyone know of good books or pieces for a solo violin (or maybe 2 part) that’s around the skill level of Suzuki books 2 + 3 but isn’t Suzuki repertoire? I’d like stuff in the realm of classical but I’m also interested in trying fiddling if anyone has good beginner recommendations for getting into that. Thank you.

Hey. I don't play violin but Im curious about this in theory. When and how does one use different bow pressure and bow position? What is done when playing loud, and what is when playing softly. Same with register too, what is done when high notes and what is done when low notes

Hi Everyone,
I've found in my 3 octive scales, and now in my playing, I'm slowly creeping up the fingerboard till my hand frame is right, but all my notes are off. I'm trying to slow down radically and be as mindful as possible, but I still seem to do it.
Any suggestions to help avoid this or at least catch it when it starts happening not when I'm already out of tune?
Thanks.

"The algorithm" threw this up on my YouTube feed, today, and I thought it was a really good video talking about being an adult beginner (in this case at illustration and graphic design, but the concepts hold true for violin, too, IMO).
The YouTuber makes a lot of good points about competing only with yourself, using age to your advantage, building momentum, and realizing that whatever you're beginning, it's not the end of the world if you mess up from time to time.

I am a 4th year violinist in 9th grade. I am nearing the string replacement/bow rehair time of the year, and am debating on staying with my current string set or buying a different set.
I currently have the Evah Pirazzi greens, thinking about switching to the golds. I haven't had any problems with the greens, but curious me is wanting to try the golds. Would I lose out on anything by switching? Should I stay with the greens?
I have loved the bright, lively sound of the normal Evah Pirazzi's, but have seen online that the gold's have made improvements off of the greens in other departments. My ..read more

I got an email from D’addario a few months ago asking if I wanted to test some strings, so I put in my information and they sent me some??? It’s like a $60 set and it came in the mail unexpectedly. Is there some sort of catch?

Have been trying a few different strings, all synthetic. Wanted to try the Pirastro Oliv strings and was wondering if there's a big difference durability-wise. For instance, do I need to worry about them snapping or be more gentle with them while playing/stringing/tuning? I know that tuning stability will be quite an adjustment, but was really more worried about breaking them since they're pretty expensive.
Thank you :)

The one I have currently is kind of annoying and not quick to get the recording playback. What do y'all use?
The magical unicorn app I'd like is something that automatically detects when I stopped playing (like Siri/Alexa) and then play back what I just played.
