Thank you for sticking with us the last 14 months. Even as we think about all that has and hasn’t happened in and around Riv over the last yearish, we’re encouraged to be a part of a church family that continues to pursue Jesus. As we’ve continued to meet online and in-person you have been such an encouragement to both our Riv staff and to each other, and your kindness and grace have not gone unnoticed. The week before everything changed last year, we studied through this passage: And let us consider one another in order to provoke love and good works, 25 not neglecting to gather together, a ..read more

Over the past year, we’ve all gone through innumerable changes and challenges in our lives. Missed birthdays, cancelled plans, disappointing decisions, lost loved ones, and heart-wrenching examples of sin in action. Yet through all of this, we know that God is sovereign and He is in control. As chaotic as the world can be, that truth brings us hope and clarity. For everything was created by him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities— all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and by him ..read more

Appreciate The Process

The process of sanctification that we’re in may be long and slow, but it is not accidental. Are we taking the opportunities to be faithful and grow in our character, even in the little moments? But now, since you have been set free from sin and have become enslaved to God, you have your fruit, which results in sanctification—and the outcome is eternal life! Romans 6:22 to provide for those who mourn in Zion; to give them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, festive oil instead of mourning, and splendid clothes instead of despair. And they will be called righteous trees, planted by the Lord to ..read more

Accept God’s Gifts

Is it difficult for you to accept the generosity of others? Pastor Tony Pyle reminds us of the gift we have received in Christ and that as believers, we are called to both give and receive generously with a heart of gratitude. But the gift is not like the trespass. For if by the one man’s trespass the many died, how much more have the grace of God and the gift which comes through the grace of the one man Jesus Christ overflowed to the many. And the gift is not like the one man’s sin, because from one sin came the judgment, resulting in condemnation, but from many trespasses came the gift, res ..read more

Accept God’s Love

Have you taken time lately to think about and rest in the reality that you are both fully known and fully loved by God? Adam, Riv’s Westside Venue Student Ministries Coordinator, reminds us that God’s love is not dependent on us or our actions, but has been promised through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. For while we were still helpless, at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly. But God proves his own love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Do you find it easier to give help rather than receive it? Pastor James Granger reminds us that sometimes the way God provides for us is through the generosity and sacrificial love of those around us and encourages us to allow others to see our needs and carry our burdens with us. Righteous In Christ

TJ Auten, Riv’s Student Ministries Director, reminds us that through Jesus’ death and resurrection, He has cleansed us of our sin and dubbed us as His righteous sons and daughters. It will be credited to us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. Romans 4:24 He made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 View the full message TJ references here. Depend On Jesus

As followers of Jesus, we are justified before God. That means that we are seen as righteous before God because of Jesus and His finished work on the cross of taking the punishment for our sin. So does that mean that we’re free to go ahead and do whatever we want and sin without consequence? If I’m justified, can I do whatever I want, right? Not at all! Justification doesn’t give us the license to sin, but rather it gives us the confident assurance that we can press on in life to become more like Christ. I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion ..read more

With each announcement that’s published and each week we progress through this year, there have been, and continue to be, unique hardships that weigh heavy on all of us. Even with tough decisions and differing opinions, we all have the opportunity to look at each other with love and give grace to ourselves and others. With the new set of guidelines from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, there are some changes around Riv we want you to be aware of. These are made out of caution and care for our church family, volunteers, and Riv staff. Our December Prayer and Worship Night ..read more
