I asked earlier who people thought would be in the next Candidates that didn’t make it this time. The overwhelming consensus was Abdusattorov, with some votes for guys like Anish Giri and Wesley So (although I was surprised than nobody said Vincent Keymer!) With that said, that means some of the guys who made it this time around won’t be back next time. Obviously the first name that comes to mind is Abasov, but other than him, who do you expect to miss the Candidates in 2026?

Only Fabi and Pragg are playing close to their actual rating so far. Rest are either overperforming or underperforming.

Found this interesting. Seems to make sense to me, at least based on how Ju Wenjun performed above her Elo at Tata Steel. Do you think the unofficial rating gap of 100 is accurate?
Some context about Kenneth Regan: He's considered the foremost authority by many on cheating detection. He's an IM and a professor of Mathematics at the University of Buffalo. (I also happen to be an ex-student of his there!)

Of course he will, he knows he has his best chance at winning if the tourney is decided in classical, and Alireza seems vulnerable. The other leaders will know this and expect Gukesh to win, so the leader will have 8.5 going into round 14.
Ian and Fabi won’t want to count on Hikaru winning with white versus Gukesh, so they think the winner will have at least 9 points. Hence, Fabi now needs to win on Saturday and Sunday, and will play as such.
Ian knows it would be difficult to play for a win with black versus Fabi, but also knows Fabi needs to beat him. He also knows earning only 1 point in t ..read more

As you can see the pairings of Rounds 8 through 12 are the same as that of Rounds 1 through 5 with the only difference being that the colours are reversed.
Is there any reason why this pattern does not repeat for Rounds 13 and 14?
