Should I Join SAG?

Hey y'all, I've been struggling with this for awhile -- I'm a nonunion actor in Los Angeles. I'm not SAG eligible yet, but could easily take steps to get there. I've not taken those steps yet because I feel as though I'm still at the very beginning of my career. I don't have a ton of good footage of myself, and I don't want to accidentally stunt my growth by joining SAG -- I'm afraid of making myself a small fish in a big pond. I rely on nonunion jobs for reel footage, money, and artistic satisfaction. I want to continue amassing good reel material and try to get some good representation befo ..read more

Has anyone here gone to film school? Not just for acting but for anything that can be relayed to in the film industry? And is it worth it? submitted by /u/cancermooncowgirl [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

10lbs difference in Pictures

Hello! Is 10 lbs noticeable in headshots? A spot opened up for my chosen photographer. Otherwise there is a wait period. However, I got surgery and am 10 lb over my normal. I'm getting back to normal and working out. These would be my first. I am finishing an acting class this may, so i wanted to have them. Curious on how much 10 lbs is noticeable on face? submitted by /u/RecommendationIll521 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is a natural look desirable?

I live in Europe, where I notice actresses in movies, TV shows who look very natural, I even think they are getting rid of make-up and I see more and more bare looks. In my country, most actresses are brunettes. I'm a natural brunette myself, I was blonde for a long time, but I had few offers - and if I did, it was the sexy neighbour type, work colleagues etc. Now that I've gone back to my original colour and have bangs, I notice that I get more casting invitations and more work. Same with false eyelashes, nails - any "too much beauty" seems to me to be a detriment in this industry. what are ..read more

Is it worth sending vertical reel to an agent?

I got offered a role in a film that’s filmed vertically. I cannot stand the rise of vertical films, but this isn’t one of those weirdly sexual ones like “mated to the alpha” or whatever. The scene and character would actually be a great addition to my reel, but it’s filmed vertically. It’ll look ridiculous added to my normal horizontal demo reel, and the agency I’m prepping to apply to is a really serious one that I worry wouldn’t take me seriously if I included it. I’d love opinions on this. Thank you! submitted by /u/Expensive-Cow6945 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Thoughts on my representation? Manager acting as agent

Hi everyone, I'm an actor based in NYC. I got signed by my reps a couple of years ago. They're my managers but they act as agents. I've never had a conversation with them about shaping my career, brand identity, or any sort of "manager" conversation. I only ever get auditions from them. When I've asked career questions, they've told me to use my better judgment without offering their take. I audition a lot though so they're really good in that regard but now it feels sorta weird? They also emailed us last year saying that we have to pay for Actor's Access now as they're no longer going to be ..read more

Question about classes

How much are classes usually? I got a message from John Casablanca and I heard their speal. They are asking 2100$ for 3 years of acting classes, Is this a scam compared to other acting classes? Are classes not even needed? I have second interview with them today to tell them my choice should I even give the time of day, or just ignore them? submitted by /u/Antisocial_artist_0 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
