For thousands of years, deer were taken primarily with stick and string. Then, Europeans introduced gun powder to North America and reshaped the course of history. Today, most deer are bagged with lead, not broadheads. But, ironically, the harvest data is trending back toward more primitive means. I travel for whitetails a lot. No two states I’ve ever been to use the same deer tagging and reporting system. After digging a little further, I couldn’t find twin systems anywhere in the nation. Authorities have found paralyzed fawns in multiple locations in Massachusetts. (Josh Honeycutt photo) In November of 2019, authorities found paralyzed fawns in multiple locations on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
