The Faithful Sportsman and our crew of misfits attended the 2024 SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range in Boulder City, NV back in January. We shot some new firearms, tested some new ammo and were on the hunt for the best handguns for concealed carry. The rain didn’t keep us down and we had so much fun. Three of the four of us have moved out of California, so we could focus on ownership of about anything we saw on the range. We hope you enjoy the video. Special thanks to: William Gardner: Firearm Expert, Contributor Ryosuke (Bill) Hinomoto: Photographer, Contributor Michael Taylor: Graphic Desig ..read more

If you have been in the outdoor space, hunting space, or turkey world for five minutes or ten years, you’ve heard of Josh Carney. “Son of the South” should ring some bells! This young man is an inspiration to many and uses an unfortunate personal event to help others and encourage young hunters to get outside. He’s been an inspiration to me as a fellow Christian, hunter and an attitude of never giving up. Josh’s health has made a serious downward turn that requires stem cell therapy to aid in recovery. To be blunt, he needs our help! Please watch the video and if you can donate to his GoFundMe ..read more

TWRA Deer Hunting Proposals for 2024
The SoCal Bowhunter
by Al Quackenbush
4M ago
As we prepare for 2024 deer hunting, we hunters are beginning to look at the land we hunt and how to improve it for deer habitat, hunting opportunities and healthier deer. For those of us that are able to hunt private land within a particular unit, we focus a great deal of our time there. While there are other proposals made, TWRA has proposed some changes specific to the deer hunting regulations moving into Fall 2024. In the below TWRA meeting on March 21, 2024, at around 2:02, Mark McBride, Asst. Chief – Game Species of the Wildlife & Forestry Division, shares about the deer hunting prop ..read more

Gear Review: Alaskan Hunter 2.0 Knife from Niche Custom Blade Works
The SoCal Bowhunter
by Al Quackenbush

My eyes have seen and hands have held many hunting knives over the years. I love a good knife! Back in 2022, I started doing some research on getting a custom knife made. I was very particular about the overall design, but I had so many ideas. My Instagram feed kept blowing up with knives from Rob McKibbon at Niche Custom Blade Works and I listened to a podcast episode he recorded with Soul Seekers. My decision was made. I was going to have Rob make me a knife. We sent messages back and forth and I decided on an Alaskan Hunter 2.0 with custom scales. My creativity took over and I started sendi ..read more

What Are Your Motives?
The SoCal Bowhunter

“What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” ‭‭James‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭3‬‬ The post What Are Your Motives? appeared first on The Faithful Sportsman ..read more

Exploring Culinary Talent and Creativity through Hunting

Creating new things to eat makes me happy. Not simply because I like to eat, but because I like the process. The other day, I decided I wanted to explore a crockpot dish in a new, healthier way. With deer meat and veggies in the freezer, I wanted to make a shepherd’s pie, but without all the carbs. Off to work I went! First off, I wanted to make a very healthy, low-sodium meal I could eat for my lunches during the week. Normally I like variety, but with venison, I like eating it more often than microwave meals. I like shepherd’s pie, but I decided healthy was the way to go, so here’s my recipe ..read more

Simple Carpentry to Build a Sawhorse
The SoCal Bowhunter
by Al Quackenbush

Repurposing and building new things from said repurposed items makes me happy. It also keep my ever grinding mind busy and working, in order to keep me out of trouble. In my garage, I had a rather large shipping pallet that needed to either be; 1.) taken to the dump, or 2.) dismantled and discarded in the trash, or 3.) repurposed. Opting for #3, I decided to dismantle the pallet and make a much needed sawhorse for my Last Chance Archery EZ-Green Bow Press. Making the sawhorse was actually very simple, thanks to Kevin at Living Traditions Homestead. I watched his YouTube video and used his ide ..read more
