From left: Essie Gel Couture Sizzling Hot, Londontown Lakur Weekend Cheers, OPI Cajun Shrimp, Olive & June XOXO, OPI Strawberry Margarita For the vast, vast majority of the year, I choose between two nail colors: pale, creamy white, or bright coral pink. There really isn’t an in-between for me. Well, now that I’m typing this I’m remembering in the fall that I like to wear darker nail colors, but I also tend to wear the creamy white colors during that time too! My nails don’t stay polished for long. They are thin, prone to peeling, and brittle. I’m pretty rough on my hands as well so it’s ..read more

Neutral Nail Polishes for Fall
The Small Things Blog

One.   Two.   Three.   Four.   Five.   Six.   Seven.   Eight.   Nine.  In the fall and spring, I’m all about soft + neutral shades on my nails. I had fun wearing really bright pink polish in the summertime this year, but as soon as September hit I shifted gears back towards my personal favorite: Lisbon Wants Moor. I usually get dip powder nails when I go to the nail salon, and this shade is always a hit. It’s a nice cream with a touch of pink. This would also be beautiful on a wedding day! Spring Nail Colors
The Small Things Blog

For me, it’s all about pinks, nudes, and creams when it comes to nail colors this time of year. Honestly, I wear a light cream (OPI Lisbon Wants Moor) most of the year, but in the spring I like to add a little bit more color. When I polish my nails at home, I always follow the steps that I shared on this post. I get the best results from Essie Gel Couture, but Olive & June is next in line. More than anything, spending the time to prep your nail beds for polish will help it last as long as possible. The nail polishes above are: Olive & June HZ, CCT, and JM  and Essie Gel Couture ..read more

One. Essie Into the A-Bliss Two. OPI Edinburgh-er & Tatties Three. Zoya Joss Four. Essie Last Nightie Five. Essie In Full Swing Six. OPI You Have Got That Glas-Glow Seven. Essie Stirring Secrets Eight. CND – Vinylux Field Fox This time of year is kind of an in-between time for nail color shades. It’s still warm outside but I’m totally over the corals and pinks from the summertime. The idea of grey or dark nails, though, doesn’t feel right either! So a safe nude, cream or even subtle purple shade is what I lean to in this season! The perk of using a neutral nail polish is t ..read more

Fun Summer Nail Polish
The Small Things Blog

It’s hard to remember a time when I wore grey nail polish for the majority of the year! These days I’m leaning more towards sheer creams or really bright oranges or pinks! I love brightening everything up in the summertime and wanted to share a few of my favorite nail polish shades for this season! Essie Gel Couture Bold Boundaries – This is a beautiful strawberry red. It looks fantastic on fingers and toes! Essie Strike a Rose – Such a fun bright pink. I’m wearing it in the photo above. Essie A Touch of Sugar – A beautiful light pink color to wear on fingernails. OPI Cajun Shrimp – Perhaps m ..read more

Gel Versus Dip Nails
The Small Things Blog

I got my first “dip” manicure a few weeks ago and there are some things I really love about it and some things I wish I would have known before I took the plunge. Or the dip, if you will. When you receive a dip/powder manicure, the technician preps your nails, applies a liquid to your nail bed, then literally dips your nail into a small container of powder, shakes off the excess, and repeats this process on all the nails. During my service the technician dipped my nails 3 times each, so there were 3 rounds of liquid then powder applied to my nails. After the nails have set, the technic ..read more

Give your Nails a little TLC

I’ve always loved having my nails done, even with a subtle “barely there” color. I think it looks professional and “polished”, pun intended! I’ve shared my love for Essie’s Gel Couture nail polish line on nearly every place I occupy on the internet, but today’s love profession is directed towards another line from the same brand, the Treat Love & Color line. I remember when this first came out I thought it was a great option for in between gel manicures, since those can be so hard on the nails. Only a few very, very sheer shades were launched and I picked up a barely there soft pink to a ..read more

The only nail polish I wear on my nails, if I don’t have a gel manicure, is Essie Gel Couture. It’s the only thing that lasts several days without chipping! I have a detailed post on how to do a home manicure that lasts here, but today I wanted to share the Gel Couture shades I’ve been reaching for this winter! Last Nightie– a soft shimmery grey/pink. I NEVER wear glittery nails but the shimmer in this feels festive without being over the top. Lace Me Up– a creamy white that needs about 3 coats to cover nicely! Fairy Tailor– a sheer soft pink that its very subtle and natural looking. Take Me ..read more

OPI Tasmanian Devil Made Me Do It, Essie Gel Couture Wearing Hue?, Essie Brides No Grooms, OPI Cajun Shrimp, CND Vinylux Mambo Beat, Essie Gel Couture Living Legend I’m either full on orangey-red and bold for my finger and toenails in the summertime, or clean and classic white. Not TRUE white, though that does remind me of the times I would paint my nails with “white out” in high school and then color over them with highlighter. I took a lot of creative liberties with my personal style in high school, but that’s a post for a different day. Anyway, perhaps one of the most c ..read more

Steps for a Gel Manicure + My Favorite Products
The Small Things Blog

I talked about this gel manicure kit back in December and heard from so many of you that you got it for Christmas! I thought I should share a few of my favorite products to use when I do my at-home gel manis and also walk you through the steps! I’ve had the most success with Gelish pH Bond, Foundation, and Top Coat. The brush sizes are easy to work with and the products really work. For color choices, I’ve enjoyed using Gelish, OPI Gel and CND Shellac. Depending on the color I can usually get away with only 2 coats, but the lighter, more sheer colors require 3 coats. OPI Taupeless B ..read more
