This will be our last post for quite some time, possibly ever. What started as a passion in my teens led to an opportunity for a small business in my twenties. That business grew, as they do. And then, almost before I knew it, I was relying on finding the best photos, the best surf, the most amazing social media posts, blah blah blah and I was feeling pressure to perform. What was once a passion became a chore. I knew things had to change when I started feeling relieved when the surf was shit. What the hell? So I changed tactics, devoted more time to e-based products, sorted out the website, a ..read more

While the #WSL has moved up to Rottnest Isalnd for the next stage of the tour, it was back to business in Margs with good sized swell and off-shore winds producing a classic Autumn day of surf in the region today. A welcome relief. The Point is not back to normal yet with tradies still packing away all the gear, but full access should be back by this weekend. Swell direction was interesting today with spots like Southsides picking up a lot of swell, and the Box had some rippas roll through especially earlier in the day when the swell was bigger. Those spots further south that often turn it on ..read more

On the last day of the 2021 Margaret River Pro we remember one of the bravest acts I've witnessed in surfing (in almost 40 years) with Bronte Macaulay's performance in the semi finals. With the loss of her brother Jack over the weekend, her resolve to continue in the event was nothing short of courageous. No photos today - nothing seems right. Our deepest sympathies to Dave and Lorraine and the entire Macaulay family in this extremely difficult time. Congratulations to today's WSL winners, Filipe and Tatiana ..read more

Margies absolutely turned it on today. Great surf - good solid swell, the wind a little lighter than forecast, and some warmth in the sun. Such a contrast to yesterday. So much so that heats were doubled up in an effort to make the most of the great conditions. As you don't need a crystal ball to see the long term forecast ain't looking too good. Makes sense to get through it asap while conditions are good. Let's hope it holds for Tuesday and into Wednesday. I still expect the entire comp to be over by Wednesday. Not great for sponsors who would no doubt be wanting maximum exposure, but if fan ..read more

Sunday and Day One of the Pro had been talked up to the point of never being able to meet the expectations placed apon it. With little wind and a building swell, women's heats started at 7.25am. Spectators who battled against the cold and rain saw some good surfing, with conditions getting better over the course of the morning as the swell picked up and waves started showing some size. As the men's heats started the wind stayed light, turned a fraction east, and the swell really started to show itself. Those prime conditions were the pick for the day as by about heat 4 the wind turned to a str ..read more

One has to wonder of the Pro shouldn't have been scheduled over the last several days and into this weekend as the tide, wind, swell and weather all lined up to produce great conditions into this long weekend here in WA. It's so easy to just say that but of course the level of analysis, time, scheduling and juggling required for a world class event such as the Pro - not to mention international competitors with Covid issues and location changes - is mind-boggling and we take our hats off to anyone involved in organising the WSL event. We saw the solid swell from yesterday continue into today ..read more

The forecast isn't always right and today proved to be such a day. Strong easterlies forecast to start before dawn didn't happen, so the early risers got good sized swell and no wind to speak of. But as the wind picked up, and man was it icy, - it felt like it was blowing straight of the antarctic glaciers - the swell strated to pick up. Solid 10 foot sets were coming in, some a bit larger than that too. A bit of west saw Boaties lookin'the goods while the Bombie wasn't really working. Same with the Point, mainbreak looked good while Southside wasn't really working at all. That super strong ea ..read more

We had some great surf during the week and the good conditions continued into this weekend. Today saw a rising swell, good tide and pretty much no wind to speak of for most of the day. The easterly that started in the morning dropped off to virually nothing by mid-morning, and the swell that started small picked up, producing some solid sets. Early on a couple of bomb sets caught people unaware. Spots holding larger swell started working and there were solid crowds at some of the more accessible breaks but still plenty of good, uncrowded surf to be found. Now onto details of our e-book, availa ..read more

While further north has had to evacuate, here in the south we've had just the good to contend with. Some much needed rain, and of course a spike in the swell. Conditions looked good on Saturday with the swell starting to jump in the afternoon. The cloud rolled in late arvo to evening, and the rain started to come down about 4am Sunday morning. A light easterly started things off as day broke, but by 10am or so it was howling. Big boards came out at Mainbreak, as much to combat the strong easterlies as for the size of the swell. The afternoon saw the wind drop off, but so too did the swell. A l ..read more

There was plenty of juice left in the tank this morning, with good sets coming in all along the coast. Swell magnets like Mainbreak, Bombie and Boaties all looked good early as the swell kept on coming, on an in-coming tide. Southsides also picked up some action with a slight change in the swell direction from yesterday. Although perhaps not as spectacular for the spectators today, conditions were a whole lot better for surfers as the wind dropped and we saw a good few hours of clean, beautiful conditions. It may not have had the size or power like yesterday, but it also didn't have the wind t ..read more
