Used to be a hallowed place. Photo by Ian Hutchinson on Unsplash
Today, the Supreme Court heard arguments in the case of “Donald Trump may be ugly, but he’s Jesus, therefore you can’t hold him accountable for anything he does ever,” vs. “No.” Because the current Supreme Court is largely made up of unqualified partisan Republican hacks sitting in stolen seats, Trump’s lawyers didn’t get laughed out of the Court and sent down the stairs on their asses as dramatically as any patriotic American would have preferred.
Before we look at any of the highlights, consider the scene, though: Trump was n ..read more

Some pretty unappealing news — on Thursday, in a 4-3 decision, the New York Court of Appeals overturned Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 New York conviction for rape and sexual assault.
The reason has nothing to do with any particular question of his guilt, but rather with the fact that women whose accusations he was not charged with or convicted of testified at his trial. The women had been allowed to testify in order to establish a pattern of prior bad acts, but Weinstein’s attorneys argued that he was convicted based on these prior bad acts and not the evidence in the specifi ..read more

The White House website says Joe Biden is doing remarks on the CHIPS and Science Act, and how that and his Investing in America agenda are “are growing the economy and creating jobs in Central New York and communities across the country.”
Meanwhile, Donald Trump is stuck in a freezing courtroom in New York, GAGGED and SNOOZE-FARTING.
If that’s America, then OK, seems like a cool place.

No idea who made this meme image, but yeah.
As protests against Israel’s war in Gaza continue on college campuses, particularly a sit-in encampment at Columbia University in New York City, Republicans have seized on a favorite “solution” to ending the turmoil: Calling for the National Guard to go in and bust some heads.

Yesterday, Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) and Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), the rightwing Bobblehead Twins of advocating political violence, demanded that Joe Biden send troops to campuses, esp ..read more

Rudy Giuliani in an earlier mugshot.
Arizona state Attorney General Kris Mayes, a Democrat, won her election in 2022 by 280 votes. Elections matter.
A grand jury in Arizona just indicted 18 people — 11 fake electors and seven Trump associates — for their efforts to overturn and steal the 2020 election in that state from its rightful winner Joseph Robinette Biden, the Democrat. Donald Trump is not indicted, not yet anyway, though he is referred to throughout as an unindicted co-conspirator. He could always be indicted later. We imagine he might be.
His felony indictment schedule is just kind ..read more

Content Note: Sexual assault, domestic violence and rape.
On Wednesday, the Ohio Senate unanimously passed a bill that will make it officially illegal to rape one’s spouse, even if you live together. Because for some reason, up until now, it was still technically legal as long as the couple was still cohabitating — which apparently even Ohio Republicans were able to see was a pretty creepy loophole to have in a marital rape law.
The bill also removes the “spousal exception” for sexual battery and other sex crimes, which also seems like a thing that should have been illegal all along. Anothe ..read more

Congratulations Arizona, and welcome to 1944. (Public Domain, Newberry Library)
The Arizona state House voted Wednesday to repeal the state’s 1864 near-total ban on abortion, apparently after deciding to stop embarrassing the state quite so much. It was the third attempt to repeal the Civil War-era law after the state supreme court decided earlier this month that it was still perfectly valid, even though it was originally passed when Arizona was still a territory, women were decades away from having the vote, and the world was so recent that many things lacked names, so in order to indicate ..read more

Eleven weeks ago, on February 7, non-binary student Nex Benedict was assaulted in a bathroom in Owasso High School West Campus in Owasso, Oklahoma. The next day, they died. They were 16 years old. In the hours immediately after, people who knew Nex or just knew Owasso began to speak out. Trans and non-binary students were scared and angry, the Benedict family appeared to be in shock, and the one constant seemed to be that media coverage, from local news to Benedict’s own obituary, used feminine pronouns and Benedict’s deadname rather than respect their own agency. (Friends say Benedict pref ..read more

Two avocados for 10 bucks (IYKYK)
This must be an example of the mad skills that led Donald Trump to pick Alina Habba out of the New Jersey Yellow Pages. Habba was on Newsmax last night with disturbing creeper man Greg Kelly, and she said:
“I don’t have hopes really that high at this moment that the New York courts will do the right thing, that the jury will do the right thing. We’re in a blue state, as you know, Greg. And I think everything’s by design. We’re in a case that was eight years old, over the statute of limitations, was denied by [former Manhattan District Attorney] Cy Vance, th ..read more

Why aren’t the MAGA showing up for their god king Donald Trump? Amanda Marcotte has some theories about what they’re willing to do violence for, and a guy who can’t even do frauds and bang sex ladies with impunity isn’t worth actual consequences. (Salon)
This is truly sad: The guy who died after he lit himself on fire at the Trump trial last week sure sounds schizophrenic, and his conspiracy theory manifesto was about “The Simpsons.” (Yahoo)
