Displays Dump & Hiatus

I'm starting to see spring collections pop up in some of the nail polish groups I'm in on Facebook, which has spurred me to finally clean out my display picture folders and get them posted. Even though they're old news by this point, since it's been almost four months since my previous display post, getting them up her will make me feel better. I'm not sure when I might have more to share, as when I've gone down to the city recently, I haven't gone display hunting like I used to. The excitement isn't there for me, whether because there are so few new things to find relative to the last golden ..read more

Wet 'n' Wild Potassium-Rich and Miami Mami

Today I have some photos from ages ago that I never got around to posting, of two of the Wet 'n' Wild Fast Dry AF colors. Potassium-Rich (yes, the name has a hyphen; no, I do not know why), a mustard yellow creme, and Miami Mami, glitter topper with pastel matte hex glitter in various sizes and colors: yellow, orange, blue, and pink. I did three coats of the creme and topped with one of the glitter on all but my index finger.       Mustard is not one of the most flattering colors on me but I keep buying it because I am drawn to the odd and unusual ..read more

Wheel B16: Glitters from Butter London
Frazzle and Aniploish

This episode of Nail Wheel Wednesday is all about Butter London glitters. I don't remember the last time I bought a BL polish. They were always sort of out of the way at Ulta, and I guess I stopped looking after a long while of not seeing anything new. Most of these were unopened; that strip of tape along the side of each bottle keeping the removable cap on made that very clear. What a shame I didn't wear more of these. I mean, I still can, but given how few liquid polish manis I do these days, not sure when that might happen. Several of these bottles were involved in the great box crash back ..read more

Orly Holo Jellies and Friends

Despite having a goal to continue buying less polish than I did in my stash expansion heyday, I'm still signed up for all sorts of brand newsletters and text alerts, including Orly's. I saw they were having a sale and went to look and noticed it included the shades from the Holo Jellies collection released this past summer. No better time then for me to share swatches of the bottles I bought a while back, along with two glitter toppers I ordered at the same time. Left to right: Party Animal, As If, Peace Out, Chill Pill, Like Totally, and Dancing Queen.   I first Skittled the Holo Jellie ..read more

Wheel A16: Gold Shimmers

More gold shimmers today for Nail Wheel Wednesday, back from the holiday break. I'm using "shimmer" broadly here; some might be more precisely called metallic or foil or chrome, but if I take the time to sort that finely, I'll never get all my polishes on wheels. And I still very much want to accomplish that.   1. Kiko Smart Fast Dry 834 Golden Tiffany (3 coats) 2. Zoya Severine (2) 3. Orly On the Dunes (3) 4. Orly Color Blast Golden Chrome Foil (2) 5. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Wedding Glitters (3) 6. OPI Sand on Your Own Feet (2) 7. OPI Love Angel Music Baby (2) [such a prett ..read more

Kokie Green Skinny Dip and Friend

Sample provided for review   Wrapping up my month of Kokie Green, today I have Skinny Dip, a blue shimmer with a subtle purple shift that's hard to capture on camera. This isn't one of the newest eight shades in the Green line, but one I hadn't tried before. I used three coats for my swatch.     You can maybe see a hint of the violet in this side shot:   I added Starry Night on top of Skinny Dip (you may remember Starry Night, a gold holo glitter, from this recent post). I was going for a glitter gradient look but I'm out of practice.     Skinny Dip is a nice ..read more

Three Warm Shades from the Kokie Green Line

Sample provided for review   Continuing my month of Kokie Green, today I have three warm hued shades new to the line and which the brand generously sent me for review. Left to right: Sweet Dreams, Call Me, and Prima Donna.   Sweet Dreams is a pale peachy pink shimmer that's on the sheer side. At two coats on my skintone, it's definitely "bare but better", adding sparkle and shine while letting my natural nail tips show through. I bet it would make a great French mani, though I didn't have the patience to try on this particular day.     At three coats of Sweet Dreams, the ..read more

Wheel Y15: Charcoal Shimmers

Dark and mysterious shimmers for this Nail Wheel Wednesday. And they are all shimmers, even though some don't show that very well to the camera in the lightbox. At a distance, they look more similar than a close inspection shows them to be. Some are more sparkly, some more pearly, some bolder, some subtler. Some lean blue or green. It's those variations that keep me interested in this project.   1. L'Oreal Drop Dead Gorgeous (2 coats) 2. Essie Tribal Text-Styles (2) 3. Urban Decay Uzi (1) 4. Pure Ice Black Velour (2) [really nice matte finish on this one] 5. Studio M Good as Granite (2 ..read more

Kokie Green Greens and Gold

Sample provided for review   Today I've got three more of the new shades in the Kokie Green line, which the brand generously sent me for review. Two of these are green in color, too. Left to right: Feral, Starry-Eyed, and Maybe Baby.   Maybe Baby is a teal-leaning medium toned green shimmer flecked with golden highlights. I did two coats for my swatch and added clear topcoat to bring out the pretty sparkles in the shimmer even more.       Starry Eyed has small gold and holo glitter in a clear base.   Starry Eyed didn't look like it'd be full coverage, so to t ..read more

Wheel X15: Glitters from Smitten Polish
Frazzle and Aniploish
by
3M ago
Today I've got a wheel full of glitters from Smitten Polish from early in the indie polish era. Smitten is still around and putting out lovely polishes, though the brand is called Dreamland Lacquer now. I think most of these are from around 2012/2013. The Smitten Polish Facebook group is gone, so I can't look them up there.   (all have clear topcoat in addition to glitter coats noted below) 1. Smitten Polish Spice Cake (2 coats) [I think the base in this has darkened over time but not sure] 2. Smitten Polish Fire and Blood (3) 3. Smitten Polish Ladybird (2) 4. Smitten Polish Verbena (3 ..read more
