UPDATE: I found it. The series was The A-Train Plays, the play was It's Not You by Craig Pospisil. Hi, I'm trying to find a short play I performed in high school. I can't remember the title or character names. I've included what I can remember about it. Also, I think it was from a series of short plays that take place on the subway, I believe one of them had Tracie Thoms in it. If anyone knows this play, please let me know. Thanks so much! Setting: A New York Subway Car Length: 10-20 mins at most Characters: 1 man, 3 women (one of whom is pregnant and married to the man) Woman 1 is pregnant a ..read more

High School threatening to remove arts/drama program

Hello, throwaway account for obvious reasons. I'm an upperclassman in highschool and a Stage Manager in theater. I love what I do and love our directors. Unfortunately I was made aware of a heartbreaking situation with our program and looking for support and suggestions what students can do to help protect the arts. Little backstory, my high school is heavily, and I mean heavily academic and STEM based. It's a public magnet school. There's no sports and no official arts funding. However, one of our fantastic ELA teachers founded a drama club as an extracurricular and it brings arts to the sch ..read more

Are there other theatre masks asides from Tragedy and Comedy?

I want to make theatre mask clay sculptures/keychains for the drama club kids in my grade. We are all graduating this year, and although I don’t know any of them very well (asides from my bf who is in the club), I know that theatre and drama is important to them. And I want them to have a form of memorability to remind them of their accomplishments in the club. Although, I want to make them sort of personalized, and I can’t seem to find any other masks asides from the tragedy and comedy. I’m wondering if anyone has any idea if there are different ones or just those two! submitted by /u/Ok_Ra ..read more

Hey guys! Recently i performed a 10-minute piece that is meant for my upcoming examination, and some comments that i got from the teacher were that the male romantic lead seemed to shrink in energy, ie he wasn't matching my energy levels anymore towards the end, and that all of the physical contact looked awkward. Generally there was just a huge disconnect between both characters in terms of emotion. I think this is because he had some stage fright during the performance and it affected his ability to get into character. Does anyone know how I can work with him to improve the emotional connec ..read more

Hi, I do high school theatre, and we had our elections today. All went well and fair, I didn't get elected for anything, but honestly idc bc everyone who got elected deserved it. My issue comes from the way our director treats our theatre program. For some context, the way our theatre program is structured is that we haved 3 types of classes. We have theatre 1, usually for freshman; theatre 2-4, anybody who wants to do theatre that already took theatre 1, but can't/doesn't want to be in the advanced class; and the advanced class, which is basically just a class for anybody who plans on doing ..read more

How Long For a Workshop?

Hi, all, I wrote a play and would like to do a workshop on it. I've already done a table read for it and would like to see it up and running. I was also planning on doing one performance for some heads of local theatres in my area to see if they're interested in making it a full production. I've never done a workshop before, so this is new territory for me. I've found a venue that will let me rehearse and perform with them, though it does cost money. I'm okay with paying- I'd really like to get this play off the ground- but $10/hour adds up quickly. I don't have an absurd amount of disposable ..read more

Planning our next musical for the school where I work. We have a tiny stage/backstage space. What are some of your favorite flexible musicals that can be done with minimal set? The students are campaigning hard for mean girls. Has anyone done this with a tiny stage?? submitted by /u/Acceptable-Mountain [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
