Hi!!! Please have a read & share your valuable thought, advices & suggestions. Apart from Nicholl & Big Break, are there other worthy contests? About me.... I am a Physics Major, just out of college, in the middle of the process of tests n all & would start working from this year in a " so called nice government job". I am telling this to shed light on the fact that i have no such background in screenwriting. My experiences are not professional but I have been doing it throughout school & college. My writings & screenplays & direction have always been appreciated ..read more

I’m writing a short film. I would appreciate it if you have any ideas if you wanna share:) The film is about two neighbors who find out the atomic war has begun and the story follows them talking and things that happen in their everyday life. The story follows them for one day. Its the 70s I think I’m gonna go with. I wanna focus on the characters. How they are and how they change knowing the end is near. How do you think the two guys would react. And the others around them? Im happy for any ideas! submitted by /u/JamesBondguy007 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Screenplay New Scene Question

If I have a scene where two characters walk down a hall and then the side character walks into a room but the main character stays outside the room doorway and stays in the hallway but holds the door open to watch the side character, would that be one scene or two? Because we are following just the main character and they are watching the person, who’s in the room searching around it, from the hallway. So if I mention the main character watches the side character search around the room from the hallway would that still be one scene, because we would be seeing inside the room from the hallway ..read more

I made a promise in a now-deleted thread that I would come back to take accountability when my Blacklist numbers came in. Didn't expect them to come in today but there it is. The review was very valuable and the numbers were very middling given the median skew. I accept them, and their accompanying notes, with humility and gratitude. End promise fulfillment. Overall 6 Premise 7 Plot 6 Character 7 Dialogue 6 Setting 8 submitted by /u/mercutio48 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What scene heading should I use for a storybook-style opening?

I want to start this script I'm writing with the trope where it's someone reading out a storybook for exposition. I'm aware this is very cliche, that's on purpose. Thing is, I'm not really sure how I'd format this in a script? I can't really say INT. or EXT. or describe what time of day it is when it's something happening in a book. Should I just not use a scene heading for this opening at all? I know there have been non-animated movies that have started like this. submitted by /u/justtoseestuff528 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What are some classic TV and movie moments of the last 10 – 15 years?

I’m writing a sitcom that includes movie references rather like the show Spaced (Edgar Wright, Simon Peg) So, a character has a board full of evidence that they’re looking at when they have a major realization. The coffee mug drops from their hand and bounces off the carpet in slow motion. It’s an Easter egg for those who have seen the Usual Suspects, but it doesn’t matter if you haven’t. I’ve got a leg crossing and uncrossing scene like from Basic Instinct. That’s really old, mind you and might be crossing the line between classic and cliché. I’ve got people passing round a conch to speak li ..read more

If you're unable to find screenplays for a certain film, or in this case, a TV show, are you able to request copies from the production company (or some other channel)? I doubt it would make any difference but I'm a film student submitted by /u/MissyMaeMisty [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
