In an extremely distressing incident, a 20-year-old Muslim youth in Honnali taluk of Karnataka was hacked to death because he had a green flag as his WhatsApp display picture.
The victim, Dayanath Khan, hailing from Davangere was working in a garage in Honnali. He had posted a green flag generally used by Muslims as his WhatsApp profile photo.

A team of scientists from the University of Arkansas have successfully tested a laser that can track down cancer cells and kill them – all from outside the skin.
While being completely non-invasive, “this technology has the potential to significantly inhibit metastasis progression,” Vladimir Zharov, author of the paper that was published today inScience Translational Medicine, tells IEEE Spectrum

Nine DMMs were found missing during the inspection of EVMs store room in Umaria, the reply said, without mentioning any reason behind it.
Latest inspections have found that Ballot Unit (BU) and Detachable Memory Module (DMM), which act as key components of an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM), are missing from safe rooms in a few districts of Madhya Pradesh, according to RTI documents.

Muslims in Sri Lanka say they fear new attacks after a top Buddhist monk called for violence against members of the religious minority, claiming a Muslim doctor had sterilised thousands of Buddhist women.

The water is almost gone.
Satellite photographs reveal the stark shrinking of one of the main rain-fed reservoirs that serves Chennai, one of the biggest cities in India.
In one image, taken by satellite on June 15 last year, the city’s largest reservoir, Lake Puzhal, resembles a dark blue ink-stain amid a densely crowded cityscape.
In another, taken on Sunday, exactly a year later, the lake is a small grey fraction of its former self.
One of the city’s other important reservoirs, the smaller Chembarambakkam Lake, is also running dry.

More than 12,000 farmers have committed suicide in Maharashtra between 2015 and 2018, the Legislative Assembly was informed Friday.
Out of the total 12,021 farmer suicides during the three-year period, 6,888 cases were found to be eligible for government aid after scrutiny by district-level committees, Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Subhash Deshmukh told the House in a written reply
So far, family members of 6,845 farmers have been given financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each, he said
