Where In The World Is Wigley: Tombstone Territorial Park
Venture Snowboards Blog

I first arrived to Tombstone Territorial Park in April 2012. I was on a roadtrip to move to the Yukon. Along the adventure I found myself 300km south of the Arctic Circle. The terrain captivated me - it was rugged and steep. Granite spires soaring from the tundra landscape. I knew I wanted to ski tour there and would make a point of coming back. It took 5 years to return, to camp out in the snow and bag a few lines with my good friend Chris Logan. We had no idea of how the conditions would be. At 64 degrees latitude it’s hard to say what the snow will be like. With the temperatures sit ..read more

Words: Mike Whitfield. Photos: Dominique Taylor. Last fall I received a Skype call from my friend Mats in Sweden. Mats and I have travelled the world together and he called to discuss the possibility for another snowboard adventure, this time traveling to Turkey to ride. We made plans to embark on a journey to splitboard in the Kacker Mountains, which are located in the north eastern part of Turkey, with the Black Sea to the north and the country of Georgia to the east. With the election of Donald Trump in the US, as well as rising political turmoil in Turkey, we decided it was best if we wen ..read more

Where In The World Is Wigley: Cathedral Provincial Park
Venture Snowboards Blog

By Michael Wigley   Cathedral Provincial Park lies in the northern tip of the Cascade Mountains, just outside the small sleepy town of Keremeos in the Okanagan Valley. While thriving with an abundance of fruit in the summer time, it grows quiet there in the winter. The park boundary lies about 30km west of the town and east of Manning Park. Up in the park sets Cathedral Lake Lodge, which began in 1934 when Herb Clark purchased roughly 80km of land for $500 from the government of British Columbia. He ran a horseback guided service to two guesthouses up at Quiniscoe Lake at 2000m ..read more

By Erik Morrison Cresting the top of our ascent we are greeted by a cool mountain breeze and with it the sounds of a natural mystic flowing through the air. Music and the sweet smell of BBQ flows across the tundra as we approach the high alpine tailgate. The starting point for our groups morning tour, the Gardner lookout was a tranquil little outpost overlooking the Beartooths. Four hours and a few thousand vert later we’ve returned to find it transformed, and most thankfully so. A sea of sunburnt smiles, old friends, notorious characters and familiar faces fill the lot. Old glory flies high ..read more

Words & Photos: Frankie Devlin There are a few things you can count on every year at the Mt Baker Splitfest: friendly faces, a killer raffle, endless terrain and unpredictable weather.  The first Baker Splitfest was started in 2010 by Bob Rodgers and Terry Schmidbauer with the hopes of connecting the community, having a good time and promoting backcountry safety through educational sessions and fundraising for the Northwest Avalanche Center (NWAC).  Since then, there have been super deep years, super wet years and everything in between but the good times with great people are pre ..read more

Words: Brett Menter, Photos: Drew Copeland & Brett Menter It’s time to scrape the wax, patch the gore-tex, and ready our kits for the new season. Tuning in to another season of early mornings and long days doesn’t come effortlessly. This time of year the majority of us are itching to get out into the hills and follow our splitboarding inspirations; however, remembering to tune in mentally is the most important pre-season assignment. As we patiently browse the satellite and radar images, practice transceiver searches, and dial in our layering systems, we set intentions for that first ..read more

Words: Devin Overton Photos: Ben Eng, Devin Overton, Victor Major, Dustin Hinde During any given season in the San Juans, the number of days in which you are able enjoy fresh powder that is bonded well to a deep and stable snowpack beneath clear skies in the biggest alpine terrain will likely be counted on a single hand, if at all. Here, the first bluebird day following a two-foot storm is often when you gaze out above tree line at the plastered walls of the mountains, lured by their beauty and potential, yet scared shitless by the immense amount of releasable energy they suddenly possess. Fall is returning to the San Juans and here at Venture Snowboards HQ that can only mean three things. Snow is starting to make an appearance on the peaks above town, the last of snowboard and splitboard production gets kicked into high gear, and the team's shred flick consumption increases right along with it. Pre-season is premiere season, and there's no snowboard film we're more excited to see than Haulin' Ass. A BHB Production, and featuring the antics of Venture Snowboards' Hagen Kerney, Harry Kearney and Neil Kelly, this local film is sure to be nothing short of San Juan gold. Stay t ..read more
