Who here has an EPIC Pass? How about an IKON? Come on, don’t be shy, raise your hand! Okay, you know I can’t see you, right?  Put your hand down.  Nonetheless, I’m sure that many of you would’ve raised your hands, if we were meeting face to face. After all, Vail sold around 2.4 million... The post Focus on an Independent: Middlebury Snowbowl appeared first on The Ski Diva ..read more

The Best Women’s Backpacks for Resort Skiing
The Ski Diva
by Rachel Vecchitto

There are a lot of backpacks that can work well for in-bounds skiing at a resort, and narrowing down the options can feel a little overwhelming. Will it be comfortable and safe on the lift? Can it carry skis? Does it fit a hydration bladder? What size makes sense? The members of The Ski Diva forums have tried many ski backpacks, and based on their personal experiences and research, we recommend the following packs: Kulkea Micro Pack If you pack light, don’t mind external straps, or have a Kulkea boot bag, this bag is a great choice. The Kulkea Micro Pack is a great small backpack with tons ..read more

The Ski Diva
by Rachel Vecchitto

Every season, members of The Ski Diva forum host informal meetups for members of the site to get together. These can be very casual, small, and last-minute, or planned further in advance with a bigger group. They take place throughout the US and even the world, and are a great way to meet other women to ski with if you aren’t ready to make the commitment of attending a Diva Week. Meeting other Divas to ski in person is truly one of the best parts of this community, and we really encourage you to give it a shot. Here are some answers to questions you might have before you meet up to ski with o ..read more

Taos Ski Valley is the only ski area in the northern hemisphere to offer a week long lesson program: Taos Ski Weeks. Featuring six mornings of lessons for a very reasonable price, Taos Ski Weeks are a great way to take your skiing to the next level, really get to know the mountain, and meet other enthusiastic skiers. Many members of The Ski Diva have had great experiences at Taos Ski Weeks and do them yearly or every few years to tune up their skiing and reconnect with friends. We’ve drawn on the wealth of information they’ve shared on The Ski Diva forums to create this guide. How much does a ..read more

Everything You Need to Know About Attending a Diva Week
The Ski Diva
by Rachel Vecchitto
8M ago
Each season, The Ski Diva has two official trips that let us all spend some time skiing together. They’re not always a week long, but we call them “Diva Weeks” anyway. Meeting other Divas to ski in person is truly one of the best parts of this community, and we really encourage you to give it a shot. Here are some answers to questions you might have before you show up for your first Diva Week. How many Diva Weeks are there, and where are they held? For now, we have two official Diva Weeks: one in the west (called Diva West) and one in the east (called Diva East). They’re held in different loc ..read more

Sara Robbins believes in equality for women skiers. That’s why she’s producing a new ski film, “Advice for Girls.”

(Photo:Addy Jacobsend, taken by Bianca Germain) It’s no secret that skiing is a male-dominated sport. Plenty of men (not all, of course) think women are somehow less capable; that they’re less serious, less driven, and certainly less accomplished. Women can’t possibly know as much as men about gear and technique. And hey, they’re probably in it just to get a boyfriend, or maybe even just for the apres. It’s part of why I started TheSkiDiva waaaaaay back in 2006; to give women skiers  a space where they can get the respect they deserve, without being judged or pigeon-holed because of thei ..read more

Ten Mother’s Day Gifts for the Outdoor Mom: 2023
The Ski Diva
by Wendy Clinch

Being a mom isn’t what it used to be. Way back in the Dark Ages, it seemed like we were expected to turn in our Adventure Cards once we gave birth; I guess we were supposed to stay indoors and knit or play Bridge or something. Not anymore. Today’s moms are out there skiing, hiking, climbing, biking, and having all sorts of outdoor fun. So the old standby Mother’s Day presents, perfume and flowers, just don’t seem to cut it (we still like brunch, though). In short, we need to explore other options. Here are a few things you might want to keep in mind for your ..read more

Getting the most out of ski school.
The Ski Diva

I recently spent a week in Taos. It was great for two reasons: First, it was our annual Ski Diva gathering, a/k/a Diva West, and that’s always a blast. And second, it coincided with the resort’s Women’s Ski Week, a 6-day mornings-only clinic just for us girls. A friend of mine (who doesn’t ski) was shocked when she found out I was taking lessons. “Don’t you already know how to ski?” she asked. Well, yes, I do. But as they say, there’s always room for improvement. I’m a fairly decent skier, but I’m certainly not the best. And therein lies the rub. Because, you see, I aspire to greatness. Okay ..read more

For Valentine’s Day: Advice for the Lovelorn Skier.
The Ski Diva
by Wendy Clinch

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow. And like everyone else, skiers have relationship problems. Oddly enough, some of them actually turn to me for advice. So to the best of my ability, I’ve tried to provide good answers to some fairly knotty issues. Take a look and see what you think.   Dear Ski Diva — I’ve been dating a terrific guy (I’ll call him Josh), and until recently, things have been going great. Josh and I share a lot of the same interests. We both love to eat oatmeal, walk barefoot on gravel roads, and collect vintage Tupperware containers. Even better, we both share ..read more

Seven things you can use when it’s super cold.
The Ski Diva
by Wendy Clinch

(Map from NECN) It’s -10F at my house right now. Tonight it’s supposed to get down to -21, with wind chills that are straight out scary. As you’ve probably heard, the Northeast is in the grip of an Arctic blast. Here in Vermont, many schools are closed, and a number of ski areas are either closed or operating on a limited basis. We skiers live for cold weather. While other people moan when the groundhog calls for six more weeks of winter, we  celebrate. Still, there’s cold and there’s COLD, as in “don’t-go-out-unless-you-absolutely-have-to” cold. Seriously, it’s dangerous out th ..read more
