How to ask for a promotion?

According to my boss I will be up for a promotion at some point this year. He talked about it vaguely during my performance review, he essentially said the promotion is dependent on how i do on a project. I am currently finished with half of the project, the second half will essentially be repeating everything from the first half in about 2 months. At the company I work at there’s 3 “levels” of promotions you can get, 1 being the “smallest” (you get “senior” added to your current title) and 3 being the “biggest”. Each one of these comes with a pay raise. I am not sure if I’m qualified for 3 ..read more

Hello everyone. Just want your thoughts/opinions about what I'm thinking. I'm from Portugal and my academic background is Industrial Production Engineering. I work in moulds industry for about 22 years. Where I work (a small company) there's no space to grow. So I decided to change my carreer. And I thought in the IT field. Some friends talked to me and told me about Scrum Master role. That time I didn't know much about it but I do a little research and I like what I read. Took a course and then the PSM I certification by scrum.org I then started to send CV's but nothing. All rejected because ..read more

Hey guys, so I'm currently in my 2nd year of Bachelor of Psychology because i wanted to be a neuropsychologist, however I am now regretting my decision. I am thinking of working within the field of IT, finance or any management role if possible. Should I drop out of my degree as I'm basically half way through it and do another bachelor degree instead? OR should I finish my psych degree and then apply for masters within the other fields? . I really don't want to continue on doing much related to the psychology profession but i dont know if it would be smart to either complete the degree and be ..read more

Which Sydney-based prop trading firms (quant researcher) is best for internship (and after graduation)?

I am interviewing with some Sydney based prop trading firms (SIG, Optiver, Citadel Securities) for Quant Research internship (currently a PhD student). There is no offer yet but I feel I should be able to land a few. My interview with Citadel Securities was pretty pleasant as opposed to what most online reviews says. But I sense (a lot of) concerning things from my chat with the interviewer. Like do or get fired (the interviewer blatantly said something like this), long working hours, etc. I also read that the culture is very toxic there. I have only had the behavioral interview with Optiver ..read more

Which careers/jobs would you recommend for me based on my preferences?

I enjoy jobs that... are either only short-term tasks or a combination of short + long term tasks (I don't like jobs that only have long term tasks) are a bit more fast-paced let me work on a task or project until the very end, so that I get that dopamine boost (I don't want to have a role where I can't see the end result - I need to see whether my work successfully fixed or created or put together something) jobs that are structured around logic and/or task completion jobs that teach me different systems or structure, whether it be inside computers or within organizational structures - keep ..read more

Hello, I am currently studying computer science in the US. I am currently looking at getting a career in the cannabis industry, but am concerned about how this may affect my future employment in the tech industry. I currently have no experience working in the tech industry, so I don't want to make it even harder to get a job in the tech industry by working in the cannabis industry. I have talked to some friends in the cannabis industry and they have said that it may affect employment based on the state of the job (Red / Blue state) or if the job may require any security clearance (ie. governm ..read more

I feel very trapped and, quite frankly, I don’t know what to do. Currently, I’m about to start my senior year in college with a Civil Engineering major and Environmental Engineering minor. I have an internship job right now for a site development engineering firm and I’m quickly learning that I very much do not like civil engineering. I’ve always had a passion for human rights and environmental justice. (In fact I used to be a law student before switching to engineering). In this job, I’ve helped excavate land and it’s really getting to me how I’m on the verge of dedicating the rest of my lif ..read more
