When the last eclipse happened in 2017, my brother headed to the line of totality, where you can see the moon totally eclipse the sun. He came away with amazing stories to tell.   I stuck around in the Bay Area but still got to experience some of the wonder with crescent shadows of non-totality in the streets. That eclipse left me in awe that there could be a greater experience.   The next eclipse will happen on April 8, 2024, and the line of totality stretches from Mexico through the Midwest and into New York and Canada. Luckily for me, the pathway catches the southeast co ..read more

Many of us don’t face life-or-death situations in our work. But some of us do. We make decisions every day that affect the health, safety, and well-being of others. You may be helping patients recover from surgery. You could be managing a construction site, making sure your workers stay safe. Or you might work in marketing for a nonprofit that supports children around the world.   Whatever the context, your decisions affect people’s lives. That means the structures supporting those decisions—the data, software, insights, and tools—are critical to keeping everyone safe and healthy.&nb ..read more

The 96th Academy Awards happens on Sunday, March 10. I’m writing this on the Wednesday before—and, if all goes to plan, you’ll be reading our data story on the Oscars on Friday.   (Unless you’re reading the Domo on Data backlog, in which case—hi! You can find our full log of stories here.)  I share this time stamp because it means one critical thing, and it’s something many of us have in common: I’m in a rush to build something worthy of our loyal readership.   So I put the new Domo.AI dashboard and viz creation tools to work for me. If I’m being totally honest, this freaks me o ..read more

The Databricks ML Connector is the latest feature of Domo’s AI Model Management platform. It’s a straightforward but powerful way to connect your Databricks models directly within the Domo environment. You’re bringing the model directly to your data in your existing secure environment. Your data doesn’t get exposed, and you’re protected from the risks associated with public models like ChatGPT and others. And you’ll be more confident in the output’s reliability and validity because you know how the model is being trained.   Here’s the other benefit: Domo can build, train, and run mod ..read more

Domosphere Blog

There’s a lot of talk about inflation coming down. And, of course, it has been. But life still feels expensive—even if inflation is less relative to last year.   Well, just because inflation is less does not mean prices are coming down. Any economist will tell you that. But data dorks like us will show you.   This month, we created a Variable in Domo (Variables are cool…) to change whether we were looking at the consumer price index (CPI) vs last year, two years ago, three years ago, or four years ago. Because Valentine’s Day is upon us, we thought it might be fun to see ho ..read more

Former Tableau Engineer Shows How Domo Complements Other BI Tools
Domosphere Blog
by Tanner Brockbank

As a solutions engineer, I’ve worked for two popular business intelligence (BI) providers: Tableau and Domo. I also have experience using other BI tools throughout my career. Over the years, I’ve seen many organizations choose to use two BI solutions (leveraging the strengths of both) to solve different use cases, even creating valuable synergies between platforms. This has enabled them to solve data problems much faster while reducing overall costs in custom development work, hiring, and more.  To help people make timely data-driven decisions, your BI tool needs to be strong in several k ..read more
