Hey guys, I'm working on memorising my speech for a Japanese speech contest I'm attending and I've noticed a couple of particles that are bothering me. I have actually run the speech past my (native) Japanese teacher and he said it was good to go, but I wonder whether he just missed it and I only noticed it later, so I hadn't asked about this specifically in our lesson.
The sentences that are bothering me are these:
日本語能力試験N2レベルの単語では、ある言葉があります。
留寿都の地域でKFCがないのもかまわなかったんです。
Should I replace those with に(は)?
Also, what's a good synonym for 素晴らしい when describing a place? Like in the sentence: "It ..read more

So I recently finished a period of kanji study (RTK, so keyword -> kanji only) and want to go on to just reading, no more flashcards, because flashcards suck.
For now I'm using Satori Reader and NHK Web Easy with Yomitan for pop-up definitions and readings, looking up anything I'm not fairly confident about.
Meanings seem to be going in okay, but readings seem to be going in very slowly. I try and remember them enough to read the sentence back in my head (so long as it's not too long/too many new words; I know a few common words from previous study so beginner material will often only have ..read more

Hi all! I'll be returning to Tokyo this fall for my second little DJ tour and wanted to get some thoughts on a line of my flyer before proceeding. I am level N5 so this is a bit out of my wheelhouse. I want to say essentially "bringing the groove back to the world's greatest city". Using Google translate and speaking with a Japanese friend we came up with :
グルーヴをもたらすために世界最高の都市に戻る
Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Hello everyone.
For the first time since beginning my study of Japanese, I've been presented with an opportunity for it to be extremely useful in my normal everyday. I work in heavy diesel for a trucking fleet, and one of our drivers is a Japanese immigrant who speaks enough English to get by, but not enough to understand a lot of the technical terminology we use, which has led to a couple circumstances where he believes some work needed to be done on his tractor/trailer/tires, and me being unable to explain exactly why we aren't doing something about it right then, or the conditions in which ..read more

I want to watch a lot of Japanese historical dramas, as they interest me a lot. Obviously they use classical language however, so do they still have value for immersing? I think classical Japanese sounds really nice and I have a great interest, but I also don't want to sound like a Samurai when I talk.

I have been studying Japanese on and off for about 3 years. Nothing has been able to hold my attention and I end up getting discouraged or overwhelmed then stop (looking at you Anki). But I have been using Renshuu to try and get a fresh start, and I finally started enjoying the learning process.
But to my main question, what can I use in conjunction with renshuu? To preface, I am a uni student so I only have maybe between 2-4 hours each day when I'm not in class. I try to get my renshuu in daily in this time, but I was wondering if there are any reccomended things I can use to help further pr ..read more

When looking at japanese videos I often see comments being disabled. For example the japanese youtube accounts of PlayStation and Nintendo won't allow comments and I've seen it on other channels too. I like reading comments and reactions of music videos or game trailers. While the western channels of those companies have the comment section open I often see it not being the case for the japanese channels which is a shame because I would like to see the comments of the japanese viewers.
If anyone could enlighten me I would appreciate it.
Thanks
