I'm 6'3" which isn't anything crazy, but all of the instructors in my scene are pretty short. Are there any tips or advice you would give to a taller lead in lindy hop? Also if you could name any taller leads that could be inspiration would be appreciated! Thanks submitted by /u/Neat-Font [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can cracked Aris Allens be repaired or revamped?

My 10 year old aris Allen snub nose Mary Janes have seen better days... Can I fix them? They're still comfy to dance in, and the suede soles are surprisingly fine. The outer shell of the shoes is somewhere between vegan suede and leather, so I'm not sure if vinyl/leather repair kits would be appropriate. See attached bluesky post for pictures. https://bsky.app/profile/beyondsafewords.bsky.social/post/3kqoiho7tkc24 submitted by /u/awghost5 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Song from Laura & Peter's dance at Lindyfest?

Totally love the first song they dance to, but I'm having a tough time finding the exact one. YouTube has been helpful enough to let me know their second track is Prince Harles by the Jonathan Doyle Quintet. If anyone knows about the first... let me know! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15LEp6fM-Bw submitted by /u/realweezer [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How can I stop back leading with my boyfriend :( I feel like I get in my own way all the time. We can learn new spins and drips but then when we’re on the dance floor freestyling I feel like I subconsciously back lead and it leads to us losing the connection. Help:( submitted by /u/dancing_withwolves [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I really think I would benefit from finding a beginning partner to practice with outside of classes and socials. Is it common to ask people to do that? How would you set this up to make both people feel comfortable if you are likely going to practice in private spaces? submitted by /u/0183628191937 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello wonderful folks… Have you ever reached a point where partners are no longer challenging you to grow new skills? Due to circumstances I am unable to dance regularly will higher skilled dancers. I feel like i am reaching a point of nongrowth. When i dance solo, i am unable to practice learned skills with a skilled partner so i dont get an opportunity to regularly practice those movements. Any kind souls have any suggestions? submitted by /u/Nothivemindedatall [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Swingout frequency in dances

Fairly new dancer here, and - as I evaluate my dancing post several socials at this point - I recognize that I hardly ever do swing outs. Some part of it is that I tend to more often dance with the absolute beginners that learned swing from the pre-social lesson, so I’m in 6-count for a big bulk of my dancing to accommodate, but am realizing that I will rarely do swing outs even with an experienced follow. I think I keep missing the beginning of phrases, and it feels weird to me to randomly toss in a swing out. I know this community is nice, so follows aren’t exactly keeping track of what mov ..read more

Photographers focusing on attractive dancers

Can we talk about the really noticeable habit that many social dance photographers have of disproportionally focusing on the most conventionally physically attractive dancers? It feels really icky to me, since I think the photo albums of our events ought to showcase the full diversity of attendees. And dancers who didn't win the genetic lottery also like to have photos of themselves! Are others also bothered by this, or do you think it's fine/natural? submitted by /u/Lindyer [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
