Holt China’s project staff recently attended a training entitled “Protection of Minors and Professional Construction of Children’s Social Work.” This training covered the history and construction of China‘s protection system for minors. A Holt-supported free nursery school program in Bogotá, Colombia keeps children safe, provides critical early education, and empowers families to rise above poverty.
Every day, 4-year-old Ian learns about shapes, colors, animals, and practices counting. His favorite part of the day is music class — and he tells his mom each day about the instruments he was introduced to and the songs he learned. His favorite is the guitar, and he loves to sing and make up songs at home.

Over the years, the red couch has become a legend among families who adopted children from China. The couch was originally housed at the White Swan Hotel in Guangzhou, China, where almost all families participating in adoptions from China stayed while they waited for the U.S. Consulate to issue their child’s visa to come to the U.S. Families had their photos taken on the red couch and it became a cherished tradition among China adoptive families, each taking home a photo of their child on the red couch.
