First of all: With this post I don't want to discuss the feasability nor the controversies surrounding bigger particle colliders. Also, for the mods, I'm not 100% sure if this post is allowed in the subreddit to feel free to take it down if if goes against the rules.
The Chinese Academy of Sciences proposed in 2012 to build a 100km long circular electron positron collider, the CEPC. Projections say that this proposal will be submitted to the chinese government in 2025 and if approved the construction will take place from 2027 to 2035. This collider aims to achieve much higher luminosities tha ..read more

What books should you read to learn the basic physics by myself? I’m not hoping to become a professional physicist right away, but I just want to learn the very basic ideas of physics (university level?). I hope to start by general physics -> and dive into details on topics such as theory of relativity, astrophysics and quantum physics. Any types of books are ok from textbooks to simple non-fiction science books for general readers. Could you give me some recommendations?? Thanks!

Hi guys, I am currently taking an undergrad EM examination in a week. I was wondering if any of you have a list of select questions with answers great for revision from the Griffiths textbook

Just wanted to ask the community a quick question regarding time dilation and interstellar travel. So, assuming (and making a lot of assumptions), as a spaceship with an individual approaches closer and closer to the speed of light time dilation from the passenger and observer increases exponentially. At one point, from the perspective of the passenger in the spaceship, would any distance in the universe seem instantaneous? Where every additional 9 in 99.9 would continue to decrease their perceived trip duration to the point where it almost feels like the moment the ship departed it arrived ..read more

My teacher is the type of guy to read off of power points that lack all types of details, so I kind of need to learn the material from some sort of book. Can anyone give me a book with info on Ampops, Diodes, Kirchoff laws, and Thevenin's/Norton's theorem?

i just found out that at the speed of light (essentially the speed limit of the universe) it takes a whole second to go from the earth to the moon. that’s fucking insane like wow that’s the fastest we could posibly go and it’s still so slow. how can we hope to colonise and explore planets without the sacrifices of generations and when they arrive at these distant planets it would take dobble to time they took to get there to send a message back and fourth. entire planets could be wiped out and we would have no idea for literal generations. we’re trapped and we as individuals can never escape ..read more
