Voice training for trembling voice

Has anyone tried voice coaching or training to help with overcoming a trembling voice? I have great anxiety but feel it's exacerbated by the fact my voice shakes and gives away my anxiety, which creates a bit more of a vicious cycle. I am trying hard to focus on my breathing to stop myself running out of breath (which is an issue) but has anyone tried voice coaching to keep a steadier voice? I feel like if my voice didn't highlight my anxiety, i could gradually overcome my fear, as my greatest anxiety is about how I sound and am perceived, which then fuels more anxiety in the moment, creating ..read more

Hey Guys! I'm going to be competing at a Skills Alberta competition in the public speaking portion. All the other candidates are high school students and if I win I'll be the first junior high student to win the competition. The problem is that most of my public speaking has been about lessons and stuff like that with cadets. I was wondering if anyone has any tips for being able to seem confident and persuasive to the panel of judges and potentially place in the top three. Thanks! submitted by /u/Subject_Standard7030 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My husband and I work for a nonprofit and we are starting to give lectures & presentations together. We've both done a lot of this before but solo, not together. We did one recently where afterwards, someone in the audience privately told me that I seemed mad at my husband, that she saw me bop his hand and there seemed to be a lot of tension. That was so horrible to hear but I'm glad she told me because I didn't know it was so bad. And after reflecting on the presentation, here's how I interpret what she saw. (However it's not good. If she picked up on that, so did others, and we need to ..read more

I'm told my tone in work emails is too harsh and can even hurt people's feelings? I just don't see it so I can't fix it. Like maybe I can post an email and ask for feedback or something? submitted by /u/nanny2359 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hey everyone! Inspired by the supportive community spirit of Toastmasters, I’m looking to create an online group focused on improving social skills and public speaking. Just like Toastmasters, we’ll provide a safe and encouraging space for practicing, giving feedback, and supporting each other’s growth. If you’re interested in joining a friendly community where everyone is welcome, including those who may feel socially anxious, let me know! submitted by /u/ConsciousKieran [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I got some applause and several people approached me to thank me after a speech at a city council meeting, but I’m now in a complete funk. What is this feeling? Ego? I feel like I made a fool of myself more than anything. I did go a couple seconds over but only to finish my sentence. submitted by /u/DustENation0 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My mind went complete blank during a presentation today...

Hi guys, I usually just read posts about anything that interests me, but I really have to share my terrible presentation experience I went through in front of a large group of students today. As an MBA student I have multiple opportunities to share presentation every semester, so I usually incorporate one of two ways when giving a presentation: 1) Memorize the whole script <--which is what I did today 2) Memorize some important points that need to be shared Although I practiced 20 time at home to perfectly memorize the script my mind went complete blank during the presentation to a point I ..read more

Hi everyone! I (38F) have worked as a Product Manager for over 8 years for a large tech company. My entire life, one of my strongest skills was my public speaking abilities. I have always felt extremely comfortable presenting, whether it be in front of a few people or a few hundred. I’ve always been told I sound confident and present very natural. However, about 4-6 months ago, everything changed. I was presenting on our weekly showcase to other PMs, Engineers, Management team, etc. This is something I have done at least 20 times before and always loved it. It’s so fun to showcase the amazing ..read more
