Last year we had 18 people come to us to report hatching eggs scams from people impersonating our farm. One person even met a customer in a Tractor Supply parking lot and used my name in person! I’m both flattered and super creeped out. As a reminder, we sold our farm in June 2023, and are no longer selling eggs. There have been fake accounts on Instagram and Facebook already this spring. Please report them right away.
Thank you to all of our loyal customers over the years. Our choice to sell the farm and move was a shock to many. It was a happy choice, simply time for a change. We sold ..read more

Leg bands are used for many reasons. This article will show you how to put a leg band on a chicken as easily and stress-free as possible.
Prepare
Before you hone in on a chicken and make a plan to nab it, lay out everything you need.
Bands
Wire snips
Jar to collect band ends in
Blu Kote
Comfortable seat
A way to record information (I use my phone)
A post-banding area
What type of band should I use on my chicken?
It’s important to buy quality bands that the numbers will not rub off from over time and can be read from a few feet away. Serialized bands are simply bands with unique numbers ..read more

We do not ship chicks. Our farm is in Maine, and we meet people near the farm or somewhere locally, for biosecurity.
We are gearing up for our local spring chick sales. We have eggs going in this Friday, then some due next week. We fill our waitlist reservations first. You can get reserve chicks on our waitlist HERE.

Our third barn stall is our Legbar flock. It is currently a mix of half Cream Crested Legbar and half autosexing Olive Egger hens. This cross is considered an Easter Egger, where it’s a green and a blue layer cross. As spring approaches, we will change breeding plans and be offering these Autosexing Olive Eggers.
Our Golden Bielefelder x Cream Crested Legbar are dual purpose autosexing Olive Egger crosses. These beautiful birds are by far our best egg producers on the farm, offering a consistent sup ..read more

Golden Crele Legbar is a beautiful autosexing breed offering a consistent supply of large, light blue to green tinted eggs and lay earlier than many breeds.
Many of the offspring produced from the original Cream Crested Legbar imported to the US in 2010 developed warm tones in their feathering setting them apart from the original pastel and gray toned Cream birds. Over time, a rich reddish-gold color began to diverge from the original lines, especially the hackles on the females. These more colorful Legbar were eventually established as a variety, and given the name Golden Crele Legbar.   ..read more

This smooth rooster, named Frankie, will be the head of our first Frizzle Mille Fleur Booted Bantam breedings this spring. He will be over only frizzle hens, offering a 50/50 chance of frizzle hatching eggs.
Their ‘boots’ need to be kept clean, which means keeping a tidy and dry run and coop. If their run becomes muddy seasonally, try using wood pellets, sawdust or leaf litter to aid in drying it out.
Our pint-sized Mille Fleur booted bantams are four months old this week and so sweet. They are curious, calm and very personable. I can’t believe I have raised chickens for a decade and waited th ..read more
