Eilat is a town in the South Sinai region of Israel. It is also known as “Aqaba of the East,” a designation that comes from its proximity to the Red Sea and from the ancient trade route that connected Egypt and India via Aqaba. Since then, Eilat has made a name for itself as a popular tourist spot. Thanks to its colorful underwater coral reefs and vibrant marine life, Eilat is mainly a diving and hiking destination. Cat lovers from all over the world also visit this desert resort to catch a glimpse of the feline natives. Wandering stray cats are one of the most abundant sights in Israel. &nbs ..read more

Cyprus is famous for its plentiful four-legged resident cats. With more cats than humans in Cyprus, the feline population is out of control, with estimates putting the number of stray cats on the island at 1.5 million, while the number of people is only 1.2 million. The city of Limassol, too, is full of stray cats. “If you have not walked the streets of Limassol yet, then you should. You will see a lot of homeless cats there. They live and sleep anywhere, attracting the gaze of many people who pass by,” says photographer Yuko. “Cats in Limassol are something special. They are everywhere, and t ..read more

Christmas is coming! What better gift for your cat-loving friends (and yourself) than this beautiful calendar featuring the street cats of Vis? By purchasing this cat calendar, you will be directly supporting the work of Street Cats of Vis, a small, volunteer-run project in Vis, Croatia.   Vis is one of the smallest inhabited islands in Croatia, located about two and a half hours from the mainland. Resources for humans are rudimentary there, and for animals it’s even worse. For over 20 years, there was no vet on the island, but now there’s a small vet clinic that’s open once per week (u ..read more

Sitges is a small, picture-perfect resort town located a mere 35 kilometers south of Barcelona in Spain. It’s easily one of the most charming seaside escapes thanks to its whitewashed Mediterranean houses, its magnificent St. Bartomeu church, its maze of cobblestone alleyways, and its breezy seaside promenade lined with palm trees and al fresco restaurants. Japanese film director Takashi Miike fell in love with this coastal town while visiting the internationally renowned Sitges Film Festival and decided to film his movie JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable (2017) in Sitges ..read more

Cats have many friends in Venice. A citizen’s organization, called DINGO, takes care of community cats. They feed the cats, provide health care, and supply neutering services. A woman who looked after the cats told me that some of the cats have had an ear tip snipped off, which means that they’ve undergone a contraceptive procedure. She also said that a British animal protection group used to provide some financial support to DINGO, but that now the Venetians themselves donate money and try to prevent any more unlucky kittens. Around the town, volunteers have constructed cat houses, refuges si ..read more

About three kilometers west of Petra, Anaxos offers what many consider to be one of the nicest “Blue Flag” beaches on Lesbos island. From Anaxos’ long sandy coastline, you have a beautiful view of Petra and its church-on-a-rock, the isle of Glaronisi, and further on Molyvos and its castle. The crystal clear waters of the Aegaen Sea offers to the visitors an idyllic environment, ideal for quiet holidays. There are few traditional buildings in Anaxos. The tiny village mainly consists of a long street with many beach-side cafés and restaurants, and only a handful of hotels and rooms-to ..read more
