Sunday 27 May, 2018 We had a great, cozy sleep in Pearl and woke to another overcast day, but it wasn't cold... ~ ~ We lit the pig again... ~ Camp breakfast of eggs and bacon... ~ ...and toast with marmalade and jam to finish off... ~ Gus got Bob the boat pumped up and ready for a choof down the river... ~ This is the best way to see the river and  the beautiful cliffs and bird life... ~ ~ Mirror flat! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ We got back from our little tootle along the river to find that we had visitors at our camp.  We found it rather rude that they would just pull up ri ..read more

Saturday 26 May, 2018 We decided to have a two night camp at Hutchessons Camp, Lower Glenelg National Park, just over the Victorian border... ~ It is about a 90 km drive from Millicent, through Mount Gambier then out of town and down some pine tracks... ~ ~ ~ We had booked camp spot online and soon had Pearl set up.  We bought last nights left over, homemade pizza with us and heated it up in the BabyQ...just as tasty as last night! ~ The long drop amenities are pretty good but I'm always scared I'll come across a huntsman... ~ The Glenelg river was mirror flat which made for some n ..read more

Tuesday, April 10th, 2018  ~ We were up early to pack everything up and I caught the sunrise... ~ Quite beautiful...very peaceful. ~ Do we have to leave? ~ ~ We left Snelling Beach and made our way to catch the 10.30 ferry at Penneshaw.  We had another smooth crossing - we cannot believe our luck with the weather!  Farewell, KI, we'll certainly return for more camping and exploring sometime! Monday, April 9th, 2018  ~ This is our last day on the island so we hit the beach in the morning.  That is our little beach house on the left... ~ You can imagine how scary that day was when the fire went through...the volunteers did a fantastic job as there is not a scorch mark on the house...but everything around it is burned!  Too close for comfort! ~ Time to go back to the house for lunch... Sunday, 8th April, 2018 Today we packed up camp and headed to Snelling Beach which is where we are staying the next 2 nights in accommodation.  Rather than tow Pearl all the way down to the Flinders Chase National Park, we'll leave her there then check in later this afternoon. ~ It is only about 100kms down to the national park, some dirt road then bitumen. ~ We arrived and had lunch (chicken baguettes) at FCNP Visitor Centre before making our way down to see Admirals Arch.  The board walk it great access for those who don't like steps and also for wheelchairs.   ~ It is rea ..read more

Sat 7th April, 2018 Today, we tried our hands at fishing.  Both novices, we bought new fishing rods and thought we'd give it a go.  These rocks are hard to stand on, especially in thongs... ~ It is a gorgeous little bay...or cove.  Safe swimming for children. ~ It wasn't long before I'd caught my first fish!  Yay! ~ The view back to the camp area... ~ ~ ~ We headed to Stokes Bay where we had a lunch booking...let's hope they're open! ~ This little bay area was burnt out back in early February.  Around 75 hectares was burned, starting at the Fig Tree restaurant ..read more

Friday, April 6th, 2018 This morning we packed up camp from Kingscote Tourist Park and went and did our grocery shopping for the rest of our trip.  Then we headed for Parndana.  Along the way, we came to KI Spirits so we called in... ~ I was keen to try their Mulberry Gin...it didn't disappoint! ~ They have a lovely area where they have live music and you can just chill out on couches, rugs and chairs.  I believe that could get quite messy on a nice sunny day! ~ KI Narrow-leaf Mallee ~ We made our way on to Parndana where we had to see a client.  After that, we needed ..read more

Thursday, 5th April, 2018 Another beautiful morning...the sea was like glass... ~ I did another rock sculpture.  It’s quite therapeutic searching for the right rocks... ~ Once we’d packed up camp, we went to Clifford’s Honey Farm.  We bought a few little pots of different honeys and dressings. ~ Then it was on to the Eucalyptus distillery.  I bought some hand cream and a little bottle of oil... ~ ~ We went to the Queenscliff Hotel for lunch  and the publican was a guy from Millicent, so we had a quick chat... ~ After doing some shopping, we headed to Bay of Shoals ..read more

Wednesday, 4th April, 2018 Sunrise...lovely and calm.  It’s such a shame about the seaweed on this stretch of coastline. ~ ~ I took a walk along the beach...I wonder what lives in those holes? ~ Later in the day we tried fishing here but the deep seaweed was just too hard to stand on.  My knees were aching! ~ ~ These smooth rocks are all around our camp spot... ~ ~ I made a rock sculpture for someone to find... ~ Breakfast! ~ Squid and white bait for bait... ~ ~ This fella scared the pants of Gus!  Maybe that’s who lives in those holes... ~ Lunch was a la ..read more

Tuesday, 3rd April, 2018 We took the 12 noon ferry with Ruby and Pearl safely in the hold... ~ The crossing from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw took about 45 minutes... ~ ~ ~ We were on the road at 12.55pm heading for a lunch destination... ~ Dudley Wines ... ~ ...with magnificent views of mainland Australia over the Backstairs Passage... ~ We shared a lovely platter... ~ Then we went back to Penneshaw to buy ice, beer and a new fishing rod for me...I snapped one at Yondah! ~ Then it was down a lot of bone-shaking, corrugated white metal roads in search of our camp spot for the night ..read more
