Our fourth visit of the year to Castlerigg Hall. We can't get enough of this site or Keswick at the moment, it is rivalling Kendal CAMC as our most vistited site in recent times. We have been concentrating on north lakes this year as we have done pretty much everything there is to do in the south.
Friday
A quirk in the online booking system which means we can book our favourite pitch no. 24 pretty much anytime so no nasty surprises on arrival, apart from the weather. It's been a while since we have had to set up in the rain... we got soaked!

For the first time ever, a solo trip for D. J away with her mum so the perfect opportunity for D to try a solo trip, to the Coniston CAMC site. This blog is pure D!
Friday
Earliest arrive time here is 10am, which is exactly when I dropped J off at Southport station. I still managed to get here quite early and got dream pitch no. 64. Pitch selection has been a problem here in the past but not this time. As they checked me in I kicked myself for not booking a pitch for one person but didn't say anything because I'd already paid in full. It wo ..read more

Our third visit of the year to Castlerigg Hall. We like this site and we like Keswick at the moment.
Friday
We arrived aound 1.30 and were shown to pitch no. 24 by the warden. We think this is just about the best pitch on the site, tucked away in a quiet corner with a nice view of Keswick and Bassenthwaite in the distance.
As is customary here we walked down the hill into Keswick, which was much busier than usual. We can usually only get in to Castlerigg Hall out of season. Best pubs are the Wainwright and the Dog and Gun and we managed ..read more

First new site of the year - Barnard Castle in County Durham. We have been meaning to visit Barnard Castle for a long time but something has always stopped us. It's quite a long journey.
Friday
A traditional Friday start to a three night trip and we timed the journey just right, arriving dead on the earliest arrival time of 1pm. Of course, there was a queue, but it didn't take long to get through and we drove around the site watching people setting up on what had been our first choice pitches based on Google Earth! The following day we s ..read more

Second visit of the year to the Kendal CAMC site which is firmly established as one of our favourites.
Friday
A bit of traffic on the M6 meant we didn't arrive until almost 1.30. We knew the site would be pretty full and we weren't hopeful of getting a good pitch but we needn't have worried. The key to pitch 22 was hanging on the wall in reception when we got there and we headed straight for it. Not quite as good as pitch 21 but pretty good compared to almost any other pitch on the site. The warden as he did his rounds complimented us on our ..read more

Second trip of the year to Castlerigg Hall, just outside Keswick. We are trying to go north as much as possible this year.
Friday
we arrived shortly after 1pm and fell foul of what must be a new policy, whereby a warden escorts you to your pitch. We drove straight to pitch 24 with the warden in hot pursuit! We apologized profusely. Something to do with traffic management apparently.
Pitch 24 is a pretty good pitch, tucked away in a corner with excellent views of Keswick and Bassenthwaite in the distance.
As usual, we walked down the hill i ..read more

14th to 16th April 2023
Our first trip of the year to one of our favourite sites - the CAMC site outside Kendal.
Friday
We had a really good journey and despite driving as slowly as possible we ended up arriving five minutes before the earliest arrival time of 1pm to fnd the barriers up. Quite rightly the wardens made us wait, but we were still first on site and we headed straight to pitch no. 21, the holy grail of pitches.
All caravan pitches should be like this. No rows of caravan here. We felt a bit guilty because we hate it when we arrive dead on time and have to join ..read more

31st March to 2nd April
Two nights at Thornbrook Barn, Ingleton, which is only about half an hour from our storage site. As with our previous trips this year the weather forecast was not particularly good but turned out to be ok. We left it until the last minute to book so were not surprised to get one of the less good pitches, but there aren't really any bad pitches here.
Friday
We set off a bit later than we would have liked due to work but were still onsite and set up by 2pm. Not the easiest of pitches to get into but luckily the motor mover decided to work this time.

17th to 20th March 2023
Another three night trip, this time to Castlerigg Hall, Keswick.
Quite a hard site to get into with little availability after this weekend. We were surprised to see a superior lake view pitch available and pounced on it before realising that he summer bus timetables don't start until next week and the nearby Crag bar would be shut. Then we saw the weather forecast....
Friday
We set off quite early and there was no traffic so we arrived dead on 1pm. Fortunately the motor mover worked after poking the wires a bit (we know which ones to poke now) and we ..read more
