Not A Fun 24 Hours
Gypsy Journal RV

Sunday night and Monday were not the best 24 hours in my life. In fact, they were no fun at all. About bedtime on Sunday evening, I started experiencing some difficulty in urinating and it continued all night, along with a lot of pain, and blood when I went to the bathroom. The first thing Monday morning I called my doctor’s office, and they said to go to the closest ER immediately. That was at the hospital in Northport, about a half hour drive from our house. Terry drove because I was in no condition to, and when we got to the hospital, the emergency room was packed with people waiting to be ..read more

Newspaper Days – Freedom Of The Press
Gypsy Journal RV

Here is another blog from my days publishing small town newspapers. Freedom of the press. It’s a term that is thrown about by many people who have absolutely no idea what it means. I see it quite often in the different Facebook groups that I help manage. We have very clear rules on what can and cannot be discussed in the each. Politics, religion, profanity, and things like that are not allowed. Every day we have to throw one or two, and sometimes a bunch of people, off of the group because they break the rules. And just like clockwork, someone always complains that we are denying them their fr ..read more

On To The Next Stage
Gypsy Journal RV

I spent most of yesterday reading through and making corrections to the last chapters I had written for my new book, Big Lake Accident. It was close to 8 PM when I finished and my eyes felt like they were about to fall out of my head. Now it’s on to the next stage. I printed those chapters out for Terry to edit and proofread, and once she’s done and I make her corrections, I will send them on to Judy and Roberta for them to do their thing. Besides spending a lot of time paying all of the end of the month bills, Terry made a delicious dinner of sesame chicken and rice. It was her first attempt ..read more

Double Nickle

More years ago than I care to remember, I had a birthday coming up and told Miss Terry I was going to hit the double nickels, 55 years old. Terry corrected me and told me I was already 55, and the next day I would turn 56. I didn’t believe her and had to check my driver’s license, and I’ll be darned if she wasn’t right! (She always is.) I had lost track of an entire year! That really concerned me, because that was the year I was going to lose weight, learn to type, and learn to play the saxophone. Now those opportunities were gone forever. But I’m happy to say that I hit another 55 yesterday ..read more

A Happy Lady
Gypsy Journal RV

Yesterday morning started with a phone call from our friend Wayne. Wayne and his special lady Anita are the folks who took down our two hay sheds, and also stripped all of the old wiring from the barn. A while back Anita got a couple of my books and said she really enjoyed them, so Wayne wanted to buy the rest of the books in the Big Lake series for her. He also wanted to get her one of Terry’s cookbooks. It was an Easter surprise for Anita, and when he took him out to their truck, she was one happy lady. She told him he might have to do all the work from now on because she’s going to be too b ..read more

Bridge Over Muddy Water
Gypsy Journal RV

We have a shallow ditch that runs alongside the road back to the barn that seems to always stay wet because it’s at the bottom of the slope from yard. Every time we walked across it we wound up with wet feet. That’s no fun at all. We decided we needed some kind of little footbridge across that area and looked online to see if they had anything at Lowes or Home Depot that would work, but everything they had was too small and very flimsy looking from what we could see online. At one point I had the crazy idea that I could build something like that. What could possibly go wrong? Oh, yeah. You’re ..read more

A Beautiful Day

Yesterday was absolutely beautiful, with temperatures in the mid-70s and lots of blue sky overhead. I keep hoping that this last cold snap we had is it for the year and we’re going to start seeing warmer weather. Of course, that means it will then start getting really hot before too long. There’s just no pleasing me, is there? I just want a happy medium, like it was yesterday. In yesterday’s blog I mentioned that Terry had ordered some things from chewy.com for the first time and they were on their way. Sure enough, first thing in the morning Alli started barking, and when I went to see what w ..read more

A Few Too Many

For quite a while now, Terry has been experiencing pain in her right elbow that is exacerbated when she tries to lift anything. At our last doctor’s appointment, they gave her a steroid shot and prescribed Prednisone tablets. She was instructed to take two pills once a day for a week and then one pill a day for another week, for a total of 21 pills. But when she received the prescription, there were 84 pills. A few too many. Terry was confused about what she was supposed to do with the others, so when I went to Pickens County Primary Care yesterday to get my weekly B12 shot, I inquired. They s ..read more

Newspaper Days – Shortchanged

Here is another blog from my days publishing small town newspapers. My dad used to always say that some people are so cheap that if you were selling $100 bills for five bucks, they would ask for a discount. I thought that was funny as a kid, but when I grew up and started running my own businesses, I found out that it was all too true. Many times when we had a vendor booth at an RV rally, giving away sample copies to our Gypsy Journal RV travel newspaper to people and trying to sell them a subscription, someone would ask for a discount because they were on a fixed income. More often than not ..read more

A Wet, Wordy Weekend
Gypsy Journal RV

I don’t know how much rain we got between Friday and last night, but it seemed like it was quite a bit. There were a couple of real thunder boomers when it poured, and other times there was no more than a drizzle mixed broken upo by periods of partial cloudiness. It was a good weekend to get some writing done, and I did. In the last three days I did somewhere around 12,000 words total, and I think my new Big Lake book is about to round the final curve and head for the home stretch. Of course, that depends on my characters. They may have other ideas that I don’t know about yet. They seem to enj ..read more
