Soothe My Soul: Colorado Aromatics Foot Butter
Nomad Colorado

The little things are often the best parts of life, I thought as Josh rubbed my achy feet with Sole Pleasure Foot Butter.  The pain in my heels was a pleasant reminder of the beautiful, soul-fulfilling day.  The aroma from the foot balm reminded me to deeply inhale and exhale and create space to relive the memories.  Calmness washed over me.  And my heart smiled.  For roughly ten years, I’ve dreamt of buying a stand-up paddleboard.  Whenever I saw someone paddleboarding as we criss-crossed Colorado, I would crane my neck out the window and imagine floating.  ..read more

For the last few days, I’ve felt like I’ve been yelling into the wind – trying to make sure people realize how serious the uncontrolled spread of coronavirus will be to our vulnerable populations, as well as medical and service heroes and their families. And then today, while listening to the Frozen 2 soundtrack (which the resident preschooler has forced the whole family to memorize), I realized I needed to surrender.  I let fear control me.  But fear of what?  My partner likely already has coronavirus, I’ve already been through the process of stripping my kitchen bare so I can more easily ..read more

For 3 days now, I’ve wanted to focus my coronavirus blog on staying positive, supporting one another, and taking a break, for those who are healthy, to reflect and maybe even enjoy a slower paced life.  I figured it would be something to keep me occupied during the long haul. But each day, since I began seriously wondering whether my partner has coronavirus, another theme speaks to me when I sit down to write.  The same is true today…. A couple things.  First, the coronavirus information we’re consuming is changing at an incredibly rapid pace.  Only a week ago, one of my best friends was ..read more

A week ago, my life’s focus, my life passion was restorative justice and re-visioning criminal justice in this country.  And now my life’s focus is on keeping clean my hands, my 4 ½ year old daughter’s hands, and our house, as well as quarantining my partner who we believe is infected with coronavirus but cannot get tested because Colorado has shut down its public drive-through testing facilities.  Hey, it seemed like a great idea, modeled after South Korea which effectively flattened their infection rate; too bad the United States must have run out of tests….I wonder if that was because the P ..read more

Well, so much for envisioning the next couple weeks as a stay-cation mixed with work…. It seems better to be safe than sorry and assume Josh got coronavirus.  Upon returning from an in-state work trip (left Wednesday morning), his voice was hoarse and he was exhausted.  Given the intense work schedule and travel, it seemed normal his body was worn down.  When he still felt tired on Saturday, we joked that maybe he got corona’d.  Then the coughing started yesterday, and aches today.  Still no fever.  He called his doctor’s office today.  The nurse reported the public drive thru testing got ..read more

Last Monday, I got in a fight with one of my best friends about coronavirus and the seriousness of what was happening.  We rarely fight.  She called me irrational, and I questioned why she was being so resistant to the projections?  As it turns out, we are all resistant, at least to some extent, to the idea that a tiny virus could impact us so much. Today Sunday, March 15th, is our first day of staying at home.  After sleeping in and devouring a delicious breakfast, we decided to go for a walk around the park near our house.  As Josh grew anxious it was taking me too long to get ready, I c ..read more
