Suggestion for big day hike in October? US southwest
Reddit » Hiking

Hi everyone, I did a few cursory searches of this subreddit for October/southwest and couldn’t find anything that fit my question. Hopefully y’all can help! My husband and I are working towards a Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim day hike next year. To get in shape for that, we wanted to do something big and new to us this October. We’ve done the 6 pack of peaks in the LA area and we want something comparable to that in Nevada, Arizona or Utah. Looking for 15ish miles and 4-6k vertical gain. We wanted to make a long weekend/road trip out of this (coming from southern CA). Any good ideas for October? Th ..read more

Just moved to Vegas, looking for any recommendations from locals for day hikes that might be a bit cooler than it is in the valley right now! Anything within a few hours of the city would be great, and the less foot traffic the better. Thanks! submitted by /u/Clarkin67 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

What hiking gear do you find yourself wearing daily

Since buying my MH Kor Airshell i find myself wearing it daily as well as for hiking. When its warm i dont overheat, when its mild it stops the chill, when i get caught in light rain i stay dry. Its one of my favourite items on and off the trail. Since getting into UL gear ive noticed how badly designed most casual clothes are, and i wanna know what hiking specific items you find yourself reaching for in your daily life. I wear my Capilene Cool T shirts and Terrebonne joggers round the house and to go to the shops etc, whereas before I'd always be in nike or other non hiking clothes. Now I pu ..read more

Planning a hiking trip in Canada has reached dark comedy levels of absurdity.

Forgive me if there is a more appropriate subreddit to post this in, but I need to vent. My friends and I have been planning a roadtrip across Canada for multiple years now. The trip would start in Manitoba, and go all the way to the Yukon and back with a strong focus on visiting National Parks. I can not fully articulate the whirlpool of emotions I feel having to legitimately consider canceling the trip next year just in case HALF THE COUNTRY IS ON FIRE AGAIN. w h a t. t h e. f u c k. I feel gutted and just bleak. Either the fires will be just as bad next year, or everything we want to see w ..read more

Destination ideas for mid December day hikes

What are some of the better hiking destinations for early to mid December in the US? My wife and I take a long weekend vacation (with out kids!) each year early December and have recently been to southern Utah, Zion, Sedona, and Portland. We like to just get up early and hike all day but stay in a hotel. Want it to be warm enough to hike not in snow for the most part. Zion did hit us with a little snow and so did Sedona haha. We are thinking maybe Death Valley? Want it to be within a 2-3 hour drive of a major airport since we are just doing a long weekend. Anybody have some good ideas? We are ..read more
