In case you didn’t get the memo, its Oktoberfest Season! The classic German beer celebration and all the dirndls, lederhosen, pub games, music, and beers that entails. After the dust settled on Modern Times Beer’s disastrous over-expansion and founder improprieties, Hawaii’s Maui Brewing purchased the famed San Diego, California brewery and has been correcting the business model since. Today Craft ‘Ohana, the parent company that operates both Maui Brewing and Modern Times, announced it will move all of the latter’s mainland production to AleSmith Brewing. The Bitburger Pilsner Challenge at German beer bar Prost! drew an international crowd of Lager devotees to Portland back in JUne, with a dozen original recipe Pilsners by breweries from across the U.S. engineered to compete against each other.
