I’m scared to death to get tested - in particular about food

TL;DR: How do foodies deal with this disease? I’m certain I have T2 based on a number of symptoms and family history. I just emailed my doctor, after weeks of putting it off, about getting tested. So pulled the trigger and I’m scared to death. Honestly, as I sit here, I almost feel like it might be better to just… not be here. Assuming the diagnosis comes through, all I can think about is the wildly dramatic lifestyle changes it would make and how that might suck the joy out of the things I enjoy most. I love food and I cook, and eat out, a lot. I’m a 40M from the US who moved to Singapore ab ..read more

Question

I received a lot of blood work back which was originally checking for hypoglycemia and insulinoma. My blood work came back some what different. I had a 0.9 fasting C peptide (low), 4.9 fasting insulin (normal), 1.8 pro insulin, 55 glucose. I am currently with no diagnosis or take any medication. Would this be more like the start of type 1 or 2 diabetes labs possibly? submitted by /u/AdTerrible3651 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I cannot tolerate sugar and carbs at all. Nothing more than 10 grams or I get massive brain fog and jitteryness followed by an awful, uncontrollable depressive episode. I lose my executive functions for hours. I’m so surprised that other diabetic people can eat 30g carbs and function normally? My blood sugar spikes immediately after carb/sugar consumption then goes down to normal within 30 minutes. I’ve never been able to catch a high at 2 hour mark via finger prick. The only reason I caught it is because of a cgm. My a1c is clinically normal. My “official” diagnosis is insulin resistance. My ..read more

Recently diagnosed type 2 and have a question regarding acute symptoms

Hi all, Sadly I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I have been averaging about a 130 to 135 BG over the last 3 months on a Libre 3. Here is my question, has anyone experienced any acute symptoms when their BG was spiking and if so, what symptoms did you experience and what number is a real danger number ( i am assuming you aren't on an insulin pump and in a situation like me, those who are can handle an acute situation differently than I can)? I sincerely appreciate it! I feel like this device causes me massive stress and anxiety and I want to know the truth as to what levels it spi ..read more

4/18/24 11.9 A1C (aka 295 avg glucose - past 2 days 140 & 137 glucose - is this decent ?

SO with brand new diagnosis 4/18 - seems to be kicking diabetes butt ! PCP dosed 500mg metformin 2x/day and insulin started 4/30 at 10mg - bumped to 12mg after 3 days. I’m amazed at bodies response to rapidly cleaning up carbs to quality ones with a decent carb:fiber ratio. PCP has advised testing glucose 1st in morning only during this initial phase. Goal is 140 glucose upon waking and have hit that 2 days in a row now. These are great results of taking back control - correct ? submitted by /u/Pup-Recovery-1 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

“Lantus Lows”

As I’m recovering from my sugar plummeting from 160 to 30 within 15 minutes, I’m wondering something. How often do you all get that freaky fast drop and low from basal insulin shot, if ever? It happens to me every 4-6 months. Also doesn’t have to be Lantus, it happened when I used Basaglar. Sucks every time, worst part of diabetes for me. submitted by /u/acwv [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I'm 17 and have diabetes

I'm 17 and was just diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I'm really scared because it was a really unexpected diagnosis since I've been trying my best to stop being prediabetic. I recently had to stop exercising a few months ago because of a health condition but have been doing my best to diet. Diabetes runs in my family which is probably why I had a high chance of getting it. I want to reverse it but don't know how to. My mom never reversed her diabetes so she doesn't know how to either. Soon I'll be able to start exercising again and I hope with exercise managing my diabetes will be easier. My m ..read more

Anyone use any meal delivery service like every plate? Do any provide carbs up front? I’m new to carb counting and I think it would be nice to get proportioned food. I’m curious as to others experiences. submitted by /u/Mental_Bug7703 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
