Mission accomplished at quilt retreat! If you read my last post, you know that I was preparing projects for my annual quilting weekend with friends. I’m pleased to say that we had a lot of fun and the sewing machines got a workout. It’s so good to get away and sew with friends! I’m not ready to show you any sneak peeks from my new pattern that I was testing (Frosty Forest), but I am tickled to show you my finished patriotic table runner, Starry Way. It turned out so cute. Prior to last year, I did not have much in the way of patriotic quilts or table runners, but I am well on my way to having ..read more

Hello quilting friends! In less than a week, I will be attending my annual quilting retreat with longtime sewing friends. I’ve blogged about these treasured times before, so you know how special this group is to me. I’m counting the days! Last night I was on a mission to get all of my projects organized for next weekend, but even in my excitement for Koronis, I hit a snag. A basket of red, white and blue scraps kept distracting me with their loveliness. I attempted to ignore them. I tried to stay on task, but eventually I gave in. I grabbed one of my early charm pack patterns, Starry Way, and ..read more

Hello quilting friends! According to the calendar, this past Tuesday marked the first day of spring. But those of us who live in Minnesota aren’t fooled by mere dates on a calendar. It’s still winter here. On Friday morning I woke up to a fresh batch of snow covering everything in sight, and more snow is expected Sunday into Monday.  That seems like the perfect excuse for me to share a Christmas version of my Nestled pattern! In February, I released my new Nestled pattern, where a primitive style house is surrounded by a simple wreath. Nestled finishes at 22 ½” square, so it could be a w ..read more

Sweetwater’s Blizzard Panel: A finished quilt

Hello quilting friends! I’m popping in to show you a recent finish, even though it’s out of season. (Such is the life of a quilter, am I right?) In December I shared a quick quilt top I enjoyed putting together using a “Blizzard” panel by Sweetwater, some Christmas prints from my stash and one of my staples, Moda Indigo Chambray. That top has been quilted and bound . . . and is all ready for next winter! When I last posted about this quilt, I was still auditioning fabrics for a small border: the chambray, a creamy white and a red with white pin dot. Also at the time, I thought that a black a ..read more

I receive a lot of inquiries on my Etsy shop from quilters who are looking for beginner friendly patterns. The people who reach out to me have usually made a couple of quilt tops, often sewing together charm or layer cake squares, which is a great place to start! They are ready to move on to something more challenging, but they still want to have success and enjoy the process. I totally remember that feeling, and it’s been on my heart to write a beginner friendly pattern that would yield beautiful results. Today I’m happy to release a free, beginner friendly pattern: Floating Squares. Floati ..read more

It’s the week of Valentine’s Day, so I wanted to share a little love by running a pattern sale on my Etsy shop. All digital patterns will be 20% off and all paper patterns will be 50% off today through the end of February. Thank you so much for supporting my small business, not only through your orders, but also through your encouragement and kind words on my blog, Instagram and Facebook. You are all blessings in my life! Last weekend I needed an end-of-winter pick me up in my house. We haven’t had a terrible winter in terms of weather and snow accumulation, but I was still feeling that inner ..read more

New pattern: Nestled

In 2021 I released a pattern called Spruce Lane, a table topper with a modern farmhouse vibe. Spruce Lane featured a palette of green, black, grey and white, which is a pleasing color combination any time of year. My sister-in-law loved it, so I gifted it to her.  Ever since then, I’ve been meaning to make another one for myself.  Instead, you might say I got a little carried away quilting . . . and designed a new pattern with the same color scheme. Introducing Nestled! A primitive style house is surrounded (nestled!) by a simple wreath, which is further accented by charcoal/black h ..read more

I have to hop in quick like a rabbit and share this darling pillow kit available from Simple Stitches Fabric Shop! They’ve paired my free Simply Starry Pillow pattern with a precious spring collection called Bunny Trail, designed by Dani Mogstad for Riley Blake Designs. The gals at Simple Stitches Fabric Shop have kitted a number of my patterns, and I am always amazed at their fresh take on things.  But I have to say, when I saw pictures of this pretty pillow, I might have let out a little squeal! What a fabulous project to work on while we wait for the arrival of spring! I think their ..read more

Happy New Year! I hope 2024 is off to a great start for everyone! I’m popping in today to share a new table runner pattern with you: Very Gingham Valentine. It’s a sweet little project that you can stitch up before February 14! I’ve been wanting to design a Valentine pattern for a while now. When you live in Minnesota, the shortest month on the calendar can seem like the longest. February is typically cold and snow packed. The joy of the Christmas and New Year’s holidays might overflow into January, but by the time February rolls around, I need a pick-me-up. This pretty runner, featuring fres ..read more

Hello quilting friends! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! I know the holiday season can bring mixed emotions for many of us. Joy is sometimes twinged with sadness. Expectations and hopes often give way to less than shiny realities. Carefully planned events can become diverted due to weather, illness or other circumstances. For some reason, I felt compelled to give you a virtual hug if that’s what you are experiencing. This year I found a new advent devotional, Prepare Him Room by Susie Larson, that really helped me step slowly toward Christmas. The book guides and teaches its readers throu ..read more
