Dolphin RFC

Dolphin took another step towards retaining Division 2B status with a comprehensive home victory on Saturday. It was the visitors who with a strong wind at their back started very strongly. They shocked Dolphin with a converted try, a penalty, then an unconverted try in the opening 20 mins. A converted try from Craig O’Connell with the extras from Daryl Foley reduced the gap to 7-15, keeping Dolphin in touching distance. Enniscorthy got a 3rd try to make it 7-20, Dolphin kept plugging away, a series of penalties led to a Enniscorthy YC. Dolphin crossed the line through Cam O’Shaughnessy, once ..read more

AIL Belfast Harlequins 38 Dolphin 34

Who would have seen this coming, scoring 34 points away from home and being denied victory with the last play. Nothing went according to plan, the weather conditions in Belfast during the week meant the game was switched to a nearby 4G pitch and a delayed kick off. The home side had the benefit of a strong wind in the opening half, while it was across the pitch it did favour Quins. A quick ball out left Dolphin shy of numbers on the right and after four mins  Dolphin were 0-5 down. Worse was to follow when after 10 mins, a clearance kick was blocked down and ran over the line by the posts ..read more

A game that started very brightly for Dolphin, ended in anguish for the home side. Within five minutes Dolphin had crossed for a try from Craig O’Connell under the posts leaving an easy conversion for Daryl Foley. The visitor’s aided by a strong breeze soon settled down and reduced the deficit with a penalty. Skerries were on the scoreboard shortly afterwards with a try from David Goodman and the conversion extended the lead to 7-10. Some good play by the backs saw Craig O’Connell score his 2nd try and the reliable Daryl Foley gave Dolphin a 14-10 lead. The Dolphin defense was standing firm u ..read more

Always good for a barrel of Guinness , Gerry was also well know for organising away trips for AIL games. Our deepest sympathies go to his daughters and son, Susan, Romy, Patrick & Judy. Arrangements are as follows Reposing at the Temple Hill Funeral Home, Boreenmanna Road. of Jerh. O’Connor Ltd. on Monday (March 18th) from 5.00pm to 6.00pm.
