We’re lining up for what is being billed as a Super Saturday for our adult teams this weekend. The 1st XV are in action from 2.30pm against Greystones RFC in the Energia All Ireland League. followed by the 2nd XV playing against Waterpark RFC in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup at 6pm in Takumi Park. Our 3rd XV are on the road with a short spin out to Newcastle West taking on Newcastle West RFC in the Gleeson League. Old Crescent RFC is delighted to announce that John Toland has been named as Club Captain for the season 2023-24. John started playing under 6s for Old Crescent with his brother Cillian, coached by his father Brian. He played the whole way through Underage Rugby until under 18s. During this time, the teams he played for won the Under 15s League, the Under 16s North Munster Open Cup and the Under 18.5’s North Munster Open Cup twice!   Eugene McGovern is entering his 10th year as Director of Rugby. A former player, having starred for both Old Crescent and Munster, Eugene comes from a family steeped in the Club tradition and is looking forward to implementing the Rugby Strategy for Old Crescent. Old Crescent RFC are delighted to announce that Cathal Monaghan has been selected as Club Captain for the coming season. Cathal is 28 and comes from Crecora in Limerick. He played his schools rugby with Crescent College Comprehensive and underage with Old Crescent RFC. Cathal is a teacher in St Munchins College. Cathal has been with Old Crescent since he was 8. He progressed through our under-age system and his first adult game for Old Crescent was with the Club’s 3rd XV. Congratulations to Old Crescent RFC Under 16’s on a superb hard won victory over Shannon R.F.C. by 14 points to 11 in the Final of the North Munster Under 16s Open Cup in Tom Clifford Park today! The Old Crescent RFC rugby community is deeply saddened at the passing of Don Reddan, a former Captain, President and Trustee of the Club. Don was Captain of Old Crescent RFC for two seasons,1965-66 and 1966-67, and was President of the Club in the 1996-97 season. He also played interprovincial rugby with Connacht and with Munster. The Reddan family are an integral part of Old Crescent folklore. In addition to Don’s involvement, his late brother Brian was Captain of the Club in 1971-72, All of his sons played with Old Crescent. The sponsorship by Takumi, led by Old Crescent stalwart Gerry Reynolds, will support the ongoing development of the Club and its facilities, and will secure the future of rugby for Old Crescent RFC at Takumi Park. Hon Secretary’s Report 2020/2021 Once upon a time there was a game called Club Rugby, which used to be played in a Rugby Club. Then the Corona virus came along and all things changed. This report is a summary of the 2020/2021season, a season that really wasn’t, in Old Crescent RFC from May 2020.
