Albert O’Connell Cup  (Metro J2)  Semi Final Coolmine RFC v Lansdowne FC Monday 15 April 2024 Coolmine RFC Coolmine 28 – 8 Lansdowne   No excuses or complaints, Coolmine were deserving winners and will hopefully go on to lift the Albert O’Connell after their final against De La Salle Palmerstown next week.  But if they were giving out medals for courage and determination against the odds, captain Will McEvoy and vice-captain Aaron Daly’s entire squad (including those present and those unavailable on the night), would all be worthy recipients.  Noble in victory the whol ..read more

Metro League Division 4 Final Lansdowne FC v Old Wesley RFC Lansdowne Road, Back Pitch. Friday April 5th 2024   Lansdowne 21 – 7  Old Wesley   The stage was set for yet another nail-biting clash under Friday Night Lights at HQ as the two clubs that have shared dominance of Leinster rugby at junior level in recent years met at the end of yet another competition. Lansdowne J3s, the holders of the League title from last year’s unforgettable 150th season, enjoyed an even better season this year, if that’s possible (with apologies to Dave Tunney and all the others in that golden era ..read more

Young Munster RFC v Lansdowne FC Energia AIL Division 1 A Saturday 6th April 2024 Tom Clifford Park, Limerick Young Munster 22 – 29 Lansdowne   “Blow winds and crack your cheeks! Rage! Blow!”* And blow it did. But as well as the challenges presented by Storm Kathleen, another interesting feature of this contest in Limerick on Saturday was how it celebrated the quality and interchangeability of the current Lansdowne 1st and J1 squads.  Several young J1 players getting their first “caps” and a few seasoned legends returning to the top tier, all worked seamlessly within the system ..read more

Albert O’Connell Cup  (Metro J2)  First Round Lansdowne FC v Old Wesley RFC Wednesday 3 March Back Pitch, Lansdowne Road Lansdowne 34 – 10 Old Wesley   After two defeats in the league already this season, Old Wesley may have come to this cup clash in HQ as the underdogs, but nobody with an ounce of sense doubted that they were still the menacing force they always were. This was going to be tough.  And it was. The scoreline told one story, but the cuts, bruises and breathless bodies at the end of the game told the real one.  Wesley put up a battle royale, but captain Wi ..read more

Lansdowne FC v City of Armagh RFC Energia AIL Division 1 A Saturday 30th  March 2024 Lansdowne Road Lansdowne 64 – 31 City of Armagh   It was like releasing a tiger from a cage.  After weeks of being locked in by other teams’ cast iron defences, someone in City of Armagh left the cage door open and the try-scoring beast buried inside Fassie’s Lansdowne men was unleashed, sending them on a rampage of eight unanswered tries.  But Armagh were happy travelers too.  They sustained remarkable punishment in the first half, but worked their way back into the game to win a four ..read more
