Former dual provincial sportsman and pro-rugby coach Grant Bashford is rumoured to be the next Kearsney 1st XV Head Coach, starting in the third term of 2024.
Bashford is currently the Clifton College Director of Sport but in school circles he is better known for the work he has done at Northwood School during his several stints as their 1st XV head coach. He was also one of John Plumtree’s assistants during the Sharks coach’s first spell at Kings Park.
2023 was a difficult season for Kearsney and so far the prospects for 2025 are not looking too optimistic. As a result a lot of hopes were pin ..read more

The Noordvaal Cup premier league came into existence in 2018 with eight schools competing. Prior to this the most sort after schoolboy rugby trophy in South Africa consisted of several macro schools’ regional leagues which fed into rounds of knockout playoff rugby.

This meant that the Klofies were not part of the first proper premier league of eight. They were however reinstated ahead of the 2019 season, which increased the league size to nine schools teams. This was a nice symmetr ..read more

Paarl Boys’ High Director of Rugby Sean Erasmus has developed a new attack-minded blueprint for the school’s entire rugby programme. This is following in the footsteps of main rivals Paarl Gim in wanting to play the same structure through all the age-groups.
Boishaai have not made any changes made to the original coaching staff this year. They have a good team in place. The main addition is former Irish international CJ Stander who has joined as a coach, not only for the first team but also to implement the new Boishaai brand in the younger age-groups. CJ focuses on breakdowns and provides ass ..read more

Two worlds collide when Garfontein of Pretoria meets Grey College from Bloemfontein in a rematch of the epic clash of 2023 that ultimately determined the national champions of that year.
Grey is South Africa’s rugby factory. It’s not a well-kept secret that apart from having the talent, their success is based on their high levels of coaching and player development from grade-8 to grade-12 and from A-team to bottom team per age-group. So it comes as little wonder that all XV first choice players in this year’s first team are 100% homebrewed. All have been at Grey from day one of grade-8. In fac ..read more

When Durban High School takes on Paarl Boys’ High on Day 3 of the Absa Wildeklawer, a focal point will be the two high profile head coaches. Sandwiched in-between Sean Erasmus’ two spells at Paarl Boys’ High was Peter Engledow’s three year contract.
Peter’s time coincided with Covid and he was unable to secure a fourth year to prove his worth in an unrestricted season. He parted ways with Boishaai and took up the vacancy at DHS ahead of the 2022 season. Here the very relatable former Griquas head coach quickly built on his credentials as a top coach and Director of Rugby. Meanwhile gifte ..read more
