What if I told you that this exact moment is exactly where you are meant to be? Good or bad, happy or sad, no matter the triumph or struggle there is a purpose in this very moment. You need to bloom where you are planted. You need to grow through what you go through. Those who are feeling good about life are probably like, “Hell Yeah!,” and those who are struggling or stuck, probably just gave me a giant eye roll and thought, “What other advice have you got?” To the eye-rollers, the purpose of this moment may not be clear now but it will be revealed to you in the future. It will eventually ..read more

Be the Light and Shine It Bright
JO Social Branding

In my last post, I talked about the importance of finding your inner light. This post is all about shining it bright. This lesson was more difficult for me to learn.  Last year, as I began to dig deep into my inner work I realized I had my own light on a dimmer switch. Often dulling it down to make others feel comfortable. I dimmed the light because I felt guilty for shining too bright and making others feel uncomfortable. UGH, I hate even writing that. I can actually trace back one of the first instances of when this happened. I was on the elementary school playground and shared some o ..read more

Be the Light

When we moved into our forever home, it took me over two years to find the perfect piece of art to hang over our TV. I didn’t know what the sign was but I knew when I saw it I would know what it was. Then one day I found it, “Be the Light.” It serves as a daily reminder to bring our best selves forward each and every day and share that light with the world. In honor of Daylight Savings Time, I wanted to share this reminder with everyone. When the clock resets and we spring ahead, the days are brighter and longer. I love the feeling of longer days and all that they have to offer us. With the l ..read more

Are you a good friend – to yourself?

“Are you a good friend to yourself?” When my life coach asked me this question I knew the answer. “No.” I can be the best cheerleader to anyone around me, finding the silver lining in any situation for others, but as soon as life hits hard, my go-to is to feel down on myself. “What is wrong with you?” “You could be/do better.” “You should know better.” “You should feel better.”  If I had a good friend going through the exact same situation, I would NEVER say these words to them. I would do my best to find all the warm/cozy words that would make them feel good and to lift them up. So why ..read more

I’m here to tell you, that you need to give yourself permission to rest because no one is going to tell you to do so. What happens when you think of the word “rest”? What does it mean for you? Now think of the word “hustle”. How does that make you feel? I don’t know about you but there was a time of my life when I thought resting was tied to being selfish and hustling meant getting everything I ever wanted. That mindset led to burnout. I only allowed myself the time and space to fully rest after long periods of hustle. I would think, “You only get to read your favorite book with a nice cup of ..read more

Don’t Tell Me I’m Being Productive
JO Social Branding

One word that I detest more than anything in this world is the word “productive.” There was a time in my life that I would measure the quality of my day based on how productive I was. That productivity was tied directly to my to-do list. Depending on how far I had gotten through the list, determined how I felt about that day, and eventually how I felt about myself. At some point along the way, I felt like a slave to my to-do list. It was very rare that I would get through the entire list. But if I did, I was like a lost pup in the woods, wondering which path to take to find my way back home ..read more
