Over 10,000 submissions later, The Smashing Pumpkins have chosen their new guitarist. Kiki Wong, who has played with Taylor Swift, Usher, Bret Michaels, Vigil of War, and more, will join the band’s touring lineup. “It’s been an absolute wild ride, but I am beyond honored and humbled to be chosen to perform alongside some of rock’s greatest and most influential musicians of all time,” she says. “I never thought little ole 15-year-old me playing metal guitar in my bedroom would amount to this moment. It goes to show hard work and perseverance truly pays off if you’re willing to push through the ..read more

Stream Thom Yorke’s ‘Confidenza’ score, including new vocal song “Four Ways In Time”

Even if you don’t listen to many film scores on their own, it’s worth paying attention when Thom Yorke does it. His score for Daniele Luchetti’s feature film adaptation of Domenico Starnone’s novel Confidenza is his first score since 2018’s Suspiria, and like that one, the music stands tall by itself, even without the film it was written to accompany. It’s got two vocal-led songs that sound like proper Thom Yorke songs (“Knife Edge” and “Four Ways In Time”), along with 10 gorgeous instrumentals, and sometimes it’s the non-vocal songs that are the most gripping. Listen to Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross’ awesome, techno-heavy ‘Challengers’ score
BrooklynVegan

Luca Guadagnino‘s new film Challengers, the most talked-about new film starring Zendaya not to feature giant sandworms, is out in theaters today. The steamy tennis drama — also starring Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor as the rest of the love triangle — gets additional heat from Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, whose techno-fueled score would go over well in clubs as well as the court. The Boys Noize continuous mix, released earlier this month, is great, but so is Reznor & Ross’ original, which seriously thumps and sparingly, cleverly works in some tennis sound effects for added pop. Joe Gittleman (ex-Bosstones) announces debut solo LP, shares new song
BrooklynVegan

Since the breakup of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, former bassist (and Avoid One Thing vocalist) Joe Gittleman has been focusing on his solo career, and today he announced his debut solo album. It’s called Hold Up, and it comes out June 21 via Bad Time Records (pre-order). Joe produced it himself, and lead single/opening track “Plastered In The Rafters” features trombone by D-Ray of Joe’s recent splitmates Bad Operation. That song is out now, and it scratches a similar itch as classic Bosstones/Avoid One Thing and finds Joe’s voice in great, gravelly form. Check it out below. The album’s also g ..read more

Mike Kinsella breaks down new Owen album ‘The Falls of Sioux’ track-by-track
BrooklynVegan
by Andrew Sacher

Mike Kinsella begins his 11th Owen album by singing about a suitcase that was “big enough to hold all my shit and then some at 21, but now in my 40s, I travel with much more dirty laundry.” It lets you know right off the bat that he’s not singing about his teenage feelings anymore, but if you think his sad bastard music is something to grow out of, just you wait. On The Falls of Sioux, Mike’s unmistakable songwriting style is as highly detailed and emotionally impactful as ever, both comforting in its familiarity and discomforting in its casual devastation. Like the last two Owen albums, it wa ..read more

Mandy (Melkbelly) breaks down debut LP ‘Lawn Girl’ track by track
BrooklynVegan

It’s a busy year for Melkbelly vocalist/guitarist Miranda Winters. Melkbelly recently dropped a new two-song single, and today Miranda releases her debut solo album as Mandy, Lawn Girl, on Exploding In Sound. It’s technically a solo album, but it was recorded with a full band and the album’s ’90s-style indie/grunge vibes don’t fall far from the Melkbelly tree. It’s a blast to listen to and Miranda’s got a voice and perspective that stands out within the sea of ’90s rock revivalists. She sheds more light on the album in a track-by-track breakdown that she’s given to BV, and you can read what sh ..read more
