I'm seeing more and more (positive) articles about solar façades. What are your thoughts about those?

Hello. My son was admitted to three different colleges; majoring in urban things (one of top rank schools, this major is in the college of architecture), BS in Architecture (rank is in forties), and BArchi (rank is outside of 100). His primary interest is urban planning and design. But, he wants to perform urban things with a professional background of an architect. So if he goes through a 4 year course, he will apply for MArchi programs. (Probably MArchi and Master of Urban Planning dual degree) I don't fully understand the merit of a 4 year nonprofessional architecture degree, because MArch ..read more

Firms that only do CD’s?

I’m young in my career and have been a part of all phases of the design & permitting process. I enjoy the technical side of architecture. Are there firms that specialize or are contracted only for the CD/building permitting phase? I guess this would suggest that other firms would be contracted for the front half. If this doesn’t exist already, is there a benefit in doing it this way? submitted by /u/tennisdude98 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

It’s an American house built in 1981. Thinking of buying it, and just curious what architectural style(s) could be used to describe it. submitted by /u/Cool-Hearing6891 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hello! Ask you for a piece of advice, need help to choose one of the options. If you have some relevant experience, it would be very precious. I speak English quite fluently (C1) and little bit of Spanish (B1), not fond of the idea of learning German or French at least before entering the master's program. In education I appreciate having an opportunity to develop some critical thinking skills and would like to receive feedback from some renowned architects and experts. Also it important for the program to be relevant today and related to contemporary architecture. Now I live in Moscow and af ..read more

4th year BARCH studio final was today. We presented our project. Pretty well fleshed out; full sets of drawings, multiple renderings, extremely clear diagrams, laid out the presentation in an easy to understand fashion; and had a MAJOR turnaround of our project from midterm. Partner slept in studio and didn’t go home for 4 days, I produced 20 drawings in 4 days at very complex detail. What is the #1 piece of feedback we get today? “Your building is too convenient” Second piece of feedback was to change the roof angle that we had set for solar panel placement; to which I told him that; and he ..read more

Hey guys. I'm newly licensed as of a year and a half ago. It seems like every time I go out and park my car, when I open the car door, rolls of plans just fall out and women start fawning over me like some kind of greek god. I drive a red convertible. Every time I go to some kind of social gathering I tend to avoid telling people what I do. The minute I mention architecture the panties start dropping. I find phone numbers in every tuck of clothing at the end of the night with no idea on how they got there. Last week I went a party hosted by a friend. I told his mom I was an architect. She kep ..read more
