arlo insisted on a cake with a shark eating a naked woman (like in jaws), and i insisted that was way too scary for the other kids, but somehow we compromised by him winning.
luckily, none of the other kids at the party were too afraid of it, or rather none of them expressed that to me lol.
the process was actually not too hard, it took me about 10-15 minutes of going slowly and being careful. i got the cake baked from the grocery store and just asked them to do the frosting in a light blue color.
and to keep the theme going on the inside, i got a white cake with strawberry filling!

a perfect easy craft to make for all the grandmas, i designed these for instax pictures and cut them so that you can swap out the photo (i often like to include a photo when we send my mom cards so she can theoretically rotate them in this frame)
supplies
cardboard
ruler
xacto
chipboard
pencil
paint
scissors
glue
directions
cut out your frame shapes from cardboard. i used a small puzzle box as my guide, and i happened to have this fancy white cardboard from a recent box but you can paint yours white after you cut.
trace the shape of the photo you plan to use on your cardboard, then care ..read more

ok so in an effort to try to keep things on the blog and not just on instagram, i’ll continue to do roundup posts of all our projects here! will try to do as often as i can before they get lost in the abyss of my camera roll.
we are doing a TON of crafts over here, trying to do one project a day whether it be a cute little diy or baking a recipe, i definitely find that having one major thing to focus on each day helps both arlo and i get through it. but that’s just us. don’t put pressure on yourself to be a crafty mom if you’re not. take it day by day and see how you feel. i just get way too ..read more

well this has to be one of the cutest projects i’ve ever made– inspired by poppy and his love of fruit, and thus inspired by arlo and similar his love of fruit, i wanted to create little fruit “puppets” that could all be housed in one big bowl.
draw and cut out fruit shapes from cardboard, let your kid paint each one (my trick for not mixing the colors up is to do a big palette with all the colors and a designated brush for each). once dry, attach googly eyes and a popsicle stick. fold a paper plate in half and tape across the seam. cut slits on the top for each fruit and stick them in!

i’ve been making so many projects over on instagram but trying to keep up with the blog too! i’ve been making videos of some of my favorite projects so i’ll just be sharing the videos here, they’re usually more helpful than photos anyway. and waaay more soothing. anyway, i made this simple nature collage that i’ve hung in the window and it makes me so happy, even though it’s browned a bit since this pic!
all you need is clear contact paper and foraged florals, leaves, sticks, whatever you see! take a walk, collect some pretty leaves, lay out a piece of contact paper sticky side up. add the fl ..read more

omg i’ve been getting so many messages everyday about our craft supplies so i thought i should list them all in one place for reference! i’ve always had art supplies for arlo (paints, brushes, palettes, canvases, paper and markers) but that was it. when this self-quarantining thing happened i panicked and bought a bunch of crafting supplies online right away because i figured that having one daily project would help both of us get through the days. so far so good.
every night when i get in bed, i look on pinterest and find a project for us to try the following day, it’s been v low pressure to ..read more

this is the first year i’ve actually made arlo valentines for his classmates — and i’m so happy with how they turned out. a follower told me she was using temporary tattoo paper and suggested it for arlos art and i loved the idea so much i actually made it happen in time for the holiday!!
(ps if you’re less ambitious, i did round up lots of cute valentines to buy here!)
this was surprisingly easy with the materials i got, but i tried two kinds of tattoo paper and the first was waaaay superior to the second (and way more expensive), so i guess it’s worth it to get the nice one if you want the ..read more

this post is in partnership with sculpey
arlos play kitchen has been one of his longest running fave things to play with (so i’m so relieved because it took me sooo long), so gifting him accessories for his kitchen are always a hit. he has tons of things to cook with but not “serving” pieces, so i thought some mini dinnerware would be a perfect addition to his kitchen, and i wanted to make them all different colors because he loves everything to be rainbow these days.
sculpey air-dry clay has a really easy to smooth texture, and it’s so soft and pliable right out of the package so you don’t h ..read more
