I was taking a reading test and I didn't get points for some of the answers. The questions where you have to write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS seem to be graded unfairly. As an example, the answer for the question "Who is performing for the audience?", the correct answer would be "a trapeze artist". My answer was simply "trapeze artist" and it didn't count. Should I pay attention and start including a/an? Is this how the real test is also graded?

I actually had a month to prepare. I'm not native but I speak English daily, so when I was there, the examiner was talking super super fast, I've never experienced that. It was so fast that I couldn't process the question and made me nervous. However I was replying also fast ( not that much). And just on one question, she said the word "problems", but I couldn't process it because it was fast and then I asked if these factors can be negative. And she made a face like oh.. You lost points lol. And told me "PROBLEMS".... (Obviously it's negative) But what I want to say is that I was definen ..read more

Hi guys. I got my fourth General Training result with the score 9-R/8.5-L/7.5-S/6.5-W on April 5.
I immidiately applied for EOR and because I was pretty sure that I should get a higher band in writing. I have spent hundred and took IELTS official courses and followed all the advice frOM IELTS ADVANTAGE.
i literally spent more than 300 hours on writing alone over then last year and more than 150 hours over the last three months as I even quit my job for this reason. And I got 6.5 three times and 7 one time over the last 15 months.
What exactly does it take so long and we paid so much money? So ..read more

I am soon to graduate and therefore would have to apply for jobs and/or PhD programs, so that's the main reason I took IELTS. I am not satisfied with my results at all, but various reasons affected my performance on test day.
I am thinking about retaking the test, mainly to improve my Speaking score, but I wanted to know if it would actually have an impact for my purpose. I know that for graduate programs 7 is the usual score required in all sections, but is it the same for immigration/postgraduate/job applications?
