Mire’s cheerful prado trench
Oliver and S
by Liesl Gibson
2M ago
Do you remember Mire from our Advisors Circle? She recently sewed our Prado Trench Coat for her daughter, and I asked her to write about it because I think it turned out so cute! Here she is, with our thanks! A few years ago, I sewed the Oliver + S Secret Agent Trench Coat for my daughter, and a few years later, it was a little sister’s turn to wear the trench coat. Both of them liked the trench a lot. This spring when trench  coats started to appearing in almost every shop, the girls started dreaming of a new trench coat. It was a fun surprise that Liesl released the Prado trench coat p ..read more

I know it’s July and many of you in the U.S. are in the middle of a heat wave, but some of the world (southern hemisphere, hello!) are heading into cooler weather and thinking about layers. As in, coat-style layers, if you can imagine it from where you’re sweating…. There are also a few of us who like to plan ahead and start thinking about sewing projects for next season without time pressure. And there are some of us who cool down by thinking about colder weather. So in any case, here we are with the amazing Shelley and her equally amazing barnyard coat! Sit yourself down with an icy drink an ..read more

Sewing is a great way to express your creativity and to wear something that no one else has. It’s also a great way to get a great fit! We’ve written lots of posts about fit in the past, and you can find many of them here on the blog. But today I want to focus on one of the easiest ways to improve the fit and to sew something to your personal preferences using a simple tool: the lengthen/shorten line. Whenever possible (and whenever I remember), I try to include a lengthen/shorten line on our sewing patterns. Sometimes people ask what height our patterns are drafted for. To be perfectly honest ..read more

How I wear it: sue’s version

How I wear it: Sue’s Dressing it Up…or Down! So many of the Liesl + Co patterns reflect my personal style that even before having the opportunity to test patterns for Liesl + Co, I already had a growing collection of them! How I decide which patterns fit into my wardrobe is organized around three things: My personal style: Simple silhouette/casual classic/creative (design elements, texture etc). To stay focused on these descriptors I start by looking at the line drawings of the pattern that I’d like to make and “imagine” how it will translate into an additional element in building a timeless ..read more

Embroidered positano blouse
Oliver and S
by Liesl Gibson
4M ago
Just for the fun of it, I decided to add some embroidery to my chambray Positano Blouse, and it was fun and easy to do! I didn’t really follow any plan, and I just sort of made up the stitches to suit myself, with little triangles and French knots around the base of the yoke and a feathery stitch around the neck. It’s one of those little projects you can take along on a trip or to the beach, or even do it while watching TV. I reversed the feather stitch so it mirrors at the center back, and I really like the effect with the diamond in the center. Starting tomorrow the weather might actually ..read more
